I wish I could agree.... but I can't see!

Your guesses all sound spot-on, and if I had to wager that an A2 carbine was in 5.56, I'd bet the farm!

Could also be .308. I got me one of them black rifles. Shoots great!

Yes, true, that is why I did not gues the chambering except to speculate, however the .308 versions tend to be a bit heftier looking than the one in the photo and she wouldn't like to shoot it so much. LOL

Guesses?

Also, the A2 was introduced in 1983 and the A1 was phased out fairly quickly in commercial production after that, the black rifle didn't become a popular item until well after the A2 was introduced (for good reason, the A2 is a damn good rifle, the A1 is a pain in the @ss) So A2s outnumber A1s or the earlier AR15 by at least 10 to 1 making it a safe bet to begin with.

I shoot competitive hi-power rifle, have been since the early 70s, and the A1 was always called the "mouse gun" and never taken seriously. The A2 has taken over the competition filed and you rarely see anyone with the M14/M1A anymore, and the M1 even more rare. I use all three but the A2 rifle has become my favorite and I also have an A2 series match rifle for the match rifle class. There would be no mistaking it for an A2 carbine though. LOL There is just so much you can do within the regulations, so easy and so cheap to make them real tackdrivers. The M14 and M1, great as they will always be, are expensive and difficult to make shoot really great. (accurate) Lots of gunsmithing is necessary under the stock to really tune them up and make them great shooters. I could almost buy a match grade A2 for what I put into my M1 on top of what I paid for the rifle to begin with. In many ways the A2 made it easier (cheaper) for a lot more people to really compete with "out of the box" rifles.

You have one in .308? I love my EBR but I just can't seem to step up to one chambered in .308. Something just seems "funny" with a "big" EBR. I've yet to see one run smoothly all day long. I can allow for a few stoppages or a jam or two, but whenever I've witnessed the "big" EBRs runnin all day long, they usually end up breaking something.

I've been sampling various different specimens lately, looking for the perfect fit in .30, and so far, the front-runner seems to be a PTR-91. I like the Garand and M-1A, but they just don't feel right. I'm an AR kind of guy, and the PTR is close enough. However, as of right now, the only .30 in my price range is an SKS!

Guesses?

I have to say guesses because on my computer screen, there's no way to confirm. If I could see that photo a little better, maybe I could concur but as of right now, I'm still looking at something... maybe an A2 carbine.... maybe a VEPR!

Agreed. Although, once upon a time, I had an old A1 that I really liked. It was my Uncle's, but he let me carry it around all the time. I only got to shoot it a few times (which is probably why I liked it so much!) but it sure was "full" of joy!

Shooting with my A2 (Colt MT6601 - talk about an "out of the box" shooter! Only mods I've done is swap the bolt and buffer for GI parts... and add a little spray paint.) is so easy, almost like cheating. I'm an Appleseed Instructor (www.appleseedinfo.org) and when we head out to a KD range, I'll just dial it up to the right distance and let the students shoot. They may've shot an M-1A or FAL or even the Garand, and made hits, but once they get behind the A2, they all say the same thing, "I can't believe how easy that was."

For the folks who know, it is relatively easy to invest a little and get a super accurate rifle. The problem I see most of the time is folks with hardware that outpaces their software. How many times have you heard, "Something's wrong with my gun."? Every shooting event has that guy that shows up with $2000 worth of hardware and doesn't know how to run it. I really enjoy seeing a 9-year-old with a Cricket outshoot that guy. And then when he says, "she can't do that out at 500." Well, we prove she can... with an A2!

I am actually more of a skeet shooter than a hi-power guy. How often the newbies show up with $8000 Beretta EELL's and a two-bit aim. Then blame it on the gun. "The gun cost $8000, how can I miss?" More than one has been told to buy a Remington 870 and $7500 worth of ammo to practice. LOL

Getting back to the original topic, my fiancee asked me the other day why we have to plan so many things, instead of being more spontaneous, like "Russian people."

She had the reality check one day we were on the street and she proposed going somewhere else, like the theater, but I told her that we had to plan in advance because tickets were already sold out.

Why is it so difficult for "them" to think of a necessary plan, given that in the USA you pay a steep price if you live everyday without the proper plan?

I have the opposite situation. I seldom plan anything, and prefer to just "go when we feel like it, and do whatever we want". Vika prefers to plan everything in advance, and really wants to know what the entire plan is in advance. I guess opposites do attract :innocent:

I'm kind of in this boat too. Whenever my wife talks about vacation or something, she just wants to do it. I tell her we have to plan on things like that.

No use.

If you figure out how to make some progress, let me know.

we make plans, but mostly in the short run. Like I don't understand ppl who plan a wedding in a year... I wouldn't be able to wait that much and what can you possibly plan during such a long time anyway?
