Greetings all!

I am new on the forum and have been reading up on some of the situations of other members hoping that I would stumble across some advice. There is a wealth of knowledge here for sure, but I think I might need a little more specific advice.

I am a USC student currently living in Puebla, Mexico. I met my now husband in April of 2008. We have been living together since January of 2009 and were married on Sept 5th, 2009. I am on a tourist visa here, but regardless received permission from relaciones exteriores to be married.

Now, I have to figure out how to get my Mexican husband into the US. I assume DCF is our best shot but I have no idea where to go from here. Also, I have to return to school by January of 2010. Can I expect to be home on time?

Anyone have some advice on steps, timelines, and/o expectations?

Thanks!

With DCF, you as the USC can leave as soon as the I-130 is filed. If you file within the next couple of weeks, your husband may have his visa in time for you two to move together, but that is not guaranteed with the holidays coming up. The other issue with DCF is that you need to be legally resident in the foreign country- Mexico in your case. A tourist visa does not normally count, but embassies have a lot of leeway to make their own decisions when it comes to DCF, so contact the local embassy or consulate and ask if they will allow DCF in your case.

Check out the handy DCF Guide on VJ for timelines and what paperwork needs to be filed.
