my SO is filipina. she got the police certificate and translation of the police certificate from the lebanon embassy. however they refuse to give her a letter certifying that the translator is competent in or fluent in both languages. they say USEM will not ask for this. Is that true? the USEM website states this:

Any document not in English must be accompanied by an English translation

A competent translator must certify the translations.

Consular officers may require additional documentation to adjudicate your application

Also, will she need to fill out the ds-230 form or only the ds-156 ds-156k and ds 157?

Thanks for all responses.

I am not experienced in this but ... just the statement from USEM saying that it needs to be certified tells me they will probably not accept the translated form without the certification from the translator ... good luck .. I would start looking and pressuring the Lebenon agency that you need this and they should supply this upon request.

DS 156, 156k and 157 are needed for K1 Fiance ... the ds 230 is not needed

Here is the link that tells you everything you will need .. and how many copies of each etc etc

Good luck !

look slike what the USEM is saying is you have to make sure the accompanying english translation also bears a statement that the person who translated the doc is certified/licensed/competent (on the english translation itself) or accompanied by a separate doc stating the same.

whatever is more practical for you should do. good luck and god bless!

if you cant get Lebanon certify for you then

Have the US Citizen fiance/husband find a translator in the US and have it certify.....

just SCAN it in a scanner and send to the US citizen by email....have him/her certify the translation and send back to you possibly the same way...

There always more then one way to solve the problem....
