We need to get an Apostille on certain documents.

"Googel says" that we get the Apostille from the Secretary of State.

So do we have to send in the papers? Make an apointment?

Do we have to get the apostille on the originals or on the translated documents?

How long does it take to get an Apostille?

How much does it cost to get an Apostille?

:star:

The apostille can typically be gotten at the consulate (they work for the Secretary of State)... on the consulate website look under American citizens services... could be listed under something like notary services

YMMV

"Authentication

We cannot authenticate U.S. documents such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, divorce decrees, death certificates, etc. Under the Hague Convention, an Apostille (pdf) by a U.S. clerk of court of a State Secretary or State certifies the authenticity of a U.S. document."

then you need to check with your own State's Secretary of State... they likely have a website as well.

For example, here is a link to MN http://www.sos.state.mn.us/home/index.asp?page=984

I assume you want to get German official documents apostilled?

Maybe things are different in Germany, but I got Belgian documents apostilled at the Belgian Dept. of State.

It was very easy: it was both possible to send the documents to the Legalisation Dept. of the Dept. of State, or go there in person (no appointment required) and get it. Getting it sent back by mail takes longer. It took 15 minutes in my case, cost (if I am not mistaken) 10 EUR per apostille.

An apostille (which is basically a stamp by which the German government authenticates the document) is always put on the original document, never on a copy or a translation.

There might be info about this on your German Dept. of State website. If you are already living in the US, maybe the German Consulate here could help you, so you would not need to send it back to Germany.

P.S. we did not need the apostille for immigration purposes, but it was needed for other things.

Hello. I need the contact info of a fairly reasonable translator for my Apostille (need Italian translation). I've seen many online at over $200 per document or anywhere from $50 on up per page. If I gotta pay that then so be it but I need something a bit less expensive. Can someone help me please?
