Does USCIS call us ever?

I had a man call me claiming he was from USCIS. He wanted some information, gave me his phone number. Regardless to say, is there a way I can verify that this person is an employee of USCIS without making an infopass appointment? I called the USCIS 800 # but they were unable to help me. The USCIS guy who called me did know a bit about my case. But I just want to make sure he is a real legitimate employee of USCIS.

Yes, the USCIS does check up on people...phone, personal visits, listening to neighbors, etc. No risk in returning the call..you can always hang up if it gets uncomfortable for you.

have him tell you your A number and your case number - no one other than USCIS should have those numbers. Yes, they have called a number of individuals so it could very well be them.

Another possible option, depending on the number, is to do a 'reverse phone number look up". http://www.whitepages.com/reverse_phone type in the phone number and it should give you the name of the person/company who owns that number. It may jsut say it is a government number or even say it is USCIS. It is worth a try.
