Hello Everyone!

I got word today that my fiances interview will be the 6th of October. This is a tuesday. He'll obviously have to get to Dakar a few days before so he can get his medical out of the way.

I want to know if anyone has had experience with the medical offices and if they were open on weekends?

Any other dakar tips? medical or otherwise?

This is so exciting!

My husbands medical took two weeks. Do NOT plan only a few days. I highly doubt they do exams on the weekends, they don't even do them on Friday after 1PM.

Are you going to the interview?? I would HIGHLY recommend it. He will probably be put on AP so be prepared for that. Now attaya_girl's fiance wasn't put on AP BUT she went to the interview.

They don't do medicals on weekends. We went to Dr. Robert Rahim. He was wonderfully kind (I went to the final medical with him), but his assistant is AWFUL (and he's the one who controls who gets to see the doctor when). Go in as soon as possible (I know your fiance is in Mali....). It'll take one day to do the blood work and the chest x-ray, but you might not get the blood work results till the next day (the clinics are closed from 12:00-3:00ish). Call the Dr. immediately and tell them the interview is October sixth. They'll make sure you get everything before then--even though it won't seem like it. Be kind and patient with the assistant (if you go through Rahim's office), but he'll make it seem like everything is fine and dandy, and will promptly forget to submit your information. Stay on top of him. We didn't bribe him, but it seems like that's what he's looking for. The Dr. himself wasn't thrilled with his assistant and voiced this to my fiance and I at his final appointment. Don't know how much longer he'll be employed there, but for the moment, it's frustrating. The other doctor was on vacation (but should be getting back soon), so I don't know about him.

Good luck!!!! I'll submit an embassy review ASAP to try to help out.

We used Dr Hassian too :)

Here is the hotel we found in March and LOVED it!!! Just two blocks from the beach and it's actually like a little apartment with a bedroom, living room, kitchen and bathroom - all furnished. I loved that I could cook!

Michele, OMG this is crazy! How is Ousmane?!

Your interview is the 6th too? Hmm where are you guys staying? Maybe I'll put Pascal in contact with you so you can help him out. I have another friend who is in Dakar but thgouh she's cool, I haven't seen her in forever. Give me your number and I'll give you a call.

Unfortunately I can't make it to Dakar. I can't get off work and this really bothers me. I just really hope that everything goes well. And now I'm freaking out about the medical. Ok, we need to talk about this. I'll see you on facebook.

From EVERYTHING I've seen he will be put on AP, especially if you are not there. I suggest you do EVERYTHING you can to get there.

If he's on AP - email the embassy right away after the interview (and then every few days) asking exactly what they need, if you can do anything to help them out, etc. Dakar is AWESOME about responding to emails AND updating the computers so DOS knows whats going on. TWO call DOS DAILY (Jessica and Sarah are the best people to talk to so if you get them prod for as much info as you can). THREE Find out when you can be there and email the embassy giving them two options of when you can be there.

If you'd like a copy of all my email contact so you can see how my flow with them went, PM me and I'll send it to you.
