Beating on school bus upsets parents

I missed this thread back in Sept. I used to live in Belleville, IL., so I guess I can provide a somewhat unique perspective on the matter, especially since I've worked with Belleville P.D. on numerous occasions as well. My insight - this is no different than what happens every day in a suburban school system somewhere in the U.S. Why was it a big deal? Same reason it's always a big deal. Race.... and the fact that it was on TV. Had one of those elements not manifested itself, we would've never heard about it. Not surprising we haven't heard anything more about it since.

I don't want to allege that your son did anything, Scott, but really, what did he do? I find it hard to believe he was randomly picked by this kid in his class. Did he have a history with this kid? Has this kid attempted to bully him before? Had they recently had a spat over something? The whole "no reason at all" thing doesn't fly. Once again, not saying your kid did anything, but I was 12 once (as I'm sure most of us were) and 12-year-olds have a very developed sense of pecking order. What caused the flaw in the Matrix?

I'm betting his son did not give the "respect" due to this wanna-be thug. YOu know how it works, how this type operates, they expect the weaker kids to flinch and resist saying anything "smart" back.... because if they do, then their "music room bad-a$$" status is challenged.
