We already went over the excuse is not a reason bit a few pages back.

I thought we agreed that statistics reported circumstance- not the other way around...

The above article is not about statistics. It's identifying a troubling trend amongst African American teenagers; which goes against the claims you guys made. Or is racism just getting worse again? if it has little to do with racism, it leaves population density and economics. Which goes straight out the window considering the stats when compared to highly populated cities in other parts of the developed world. Even if you factor in 115 million people by combining the entire population of Canada, Australia, and the UK, the homicide rate is nowhere near the rate of African American teenagers alone. This is a freagin problem.

Hal , time to stop beating around the Bush and accept there is a huge problem amongst AA youth. A problem that has nothing to do with history or circumstances but more to do with the kids behavior and attitude. For whatever reason, these kids find violence and homicide (in the articles case) acceptable.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

It really can get odd rationalizing certain things with you... what claims did I make that counteract this troubling trend? That would be news to me... as a matter of fact I believe I have agreed with you on about 6 or 7 different occasions that there is indeed, a major problem with crime in African American communities (urban). Pike has even agreed to this. Its common sense.

And furthermore... if it isn't about statistics... then please... find a source that discusses instead of using stats to 'prove' points instead of reporting them (as the stats do by definition).

Finally... if what you write here

A problem that has nothing to do with history or circumstances but more to do with the kids behavior and attitude. For whatever reason, these kids find violence and homicide (in the articles case) acceptable.

is true, then that would mean that behavior and attitude are themselves innate characteristics of the population. You have refused to state this as such. Why?

Did you read the article I linked from the Australian Institute of Criminology? Its only 6 pages long and its scholarly, based on actual sociology, AND it uses statistics correctly- to report, not causate.

Check it out. Page 4 (Figure 3) has a neat path diagram. The article even analyzes rural populations...

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

There is nothing odd about it. Much like illegal immigration discussions, you two tend to shot off opinion and downplay or discredit statistics. Furthermore, fail to ever present any of your own to support your argument; an opinion which just so happens to be discrediting that of someone else. Hey, that is what a discussion is all about. However, at some point you guys need to start using journals or some sort of evidence to illustrate your point. I am not saying I am right, I could be wrong. So prove it wrong.

You realize this approach is no different to those who no-matter what, refuse to believe that others have a better yet more equitable health care system. Discussions and articles are mere opinions, which can be skewed and biased. Statistics are not. They simply count a set criteria; like rape.

The one thing you two fail to address, time and time again, is why such a disparity between middle class African Americans and their disproportionate rate of crime to that of other similar demographics; both in American and around the developed world. The closet explanation to that is pikes well the poor commit just as many crimes to in the UK. That's great but I need to see numbers. However, it still does not explain the disparity between middle-class African American communities, when compared to others. Now if you showed me that crime stats and they almost equaled other middle class demographics, I would 110% agree that the crime is truly due to the circumstances you listed earlier.
