Chat does not subsitute for time spent with the person you are getting a fiance visa for.

Going to visit your fiance just to establish you met in person and see them on a vacation does not

give you the time you need to make a good judgement.

Many people ( mostly men) have traveled to somewhere in asia after chatting for some length of time and

visit their fiance and then come home and sign her up for a fiance visa.

There is nothing wrong with getting a fiance from another country, but take the time to stay with her in

her country. I have been living in my fiances country with her for 7 months now.

I live very modestly, (poor) but we get by so far. We will be married possibly next month.

Spend time in person living real life.... take it for what its worth

Excellent advice brother. I have often wondered how someone can make a life long commitment to someone after only meeting once to fulfill a requirement on some paperwork.

one of the things ive heard is " a fiance visa is faster" like marriage is a mcdonalds drive-through.

so what if it takes longer, a good dinner usually does..

this is one time you really want to stop and think with the head that sits on your shoulders.

and not the other one to the south

I totally agree with the OP. My husband and I decided we wanted to get married very soon after we met online, but then we both realized that we couldn't get to know each other well enough online and on the phone to make a lifetime commitment. So, I kept my place in Canada, but moved to the U.S. to live with him so we could get to know each other in "real" life. We're very glad we did, and we're also glad we were fortunate enough to be able to do so.

Pay attention in particular to the last few pages which show a very nice summation of this Seattles own relationship qualifications.

If you would still like to take the advice of the OP after you have read it....fair enough.

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

I thought I remembered this guy from his last rant...

Here's the best summary anyone has put together from his various threads to describe the real Seattle2Cebu:

Seattle2Cebu has been posting for a while on both VJ and also on livingincebu.com. He's a real piece of work. His "advice" is all over the map, and he constantly airs his dirty laundry online. For example:

> He's had two failed K-1 relationships involving Filipinas, and another failed marriage.

> Was diagnosed bipolar and is off his medication.

> Has anger-management issues that he does not get treatment for.

> Was arrested in Washington State and given a deferred prosecution for domestic violence, which involved "spanking his children".

> Left his children with their grandparents in Texas.

> Was fired from his call center job in Washington State.

> Moved to Cebu with about $1000. to his name (and no income stream), and blew through it in two weeks.

> Loves to play poker and gamble online.

> Has diabetes (which he neglects).

> Has erectile disfunction.

> Almost lost his leg to infection while in Cebu (not THAT leg).

> He's 50 and has taken up in Cebu with a 17-year-old Cebuana who doesn't speak English and has a fourth or fifth-grade education.

> Got angry at his fiancée in Cebu and nearly tore down her aunt's house...injuring himself in the process.

> Was basically broke and homeless in Cebu.

> Begged for money on VJ and on other online sites.

> Advocates that you put a key-logger on your computer to monitor your significant other.

> Is now renting a house using school loans from his online Bible-studies course.

> Is engaged to be married to a 17-year-old Cebuana who he calls (at different times) his wife, his joke-wife, his fiancée, his so-called wife, or his girlfriend.

> Was planning their wedding for 250+ people in Cebu when he was broke.

Would you take advice from this guy?

What a catch!

As a wise friend once said to me, "If everything in your life fails and the only constent is you then maybe you're looking in the wrong place for the source of the problem".

Me thinks Seattle2Cebu needs to spend more time looking at the "Man in the Mirror" and less tiem trying to tell me that I didn't get to know my wife the proper way.

I have to agree - our own loves always seem better than others because we are living them and reaping the benefits. I'm sad for people who need to tear others' down so that their relationship looks better (to them). Must suck.
