Hi everyone,

Forgive me if someone has already posted this.... but I'm under a time crunch here and need your help. We received an RFE last month and are due to submit more information by the 23rd of this month. I need to make a Statement and was wondering if there was an outline somewhere that I could use as a reference?? Also, one for a Rental Agreement?

Thanks,

Sarah

Just a statement written by me in detail about my marriage. we don't have enough time to do the sworn affidavits thing. I had asked hubby to do those back when we got the letter but .... he didn't want to and is sure we don't need them. I feel we need them but we have to mail the pkg out this week as we are on vacation next week.

There isn't one specifically for a rental agreement - the Example Forms section has an example of a sworn statement/affidavit.

We don't have time for a sworn statement/affidavit. I'm doing the Statement which is the last option on the list of RFE suggestions.

Not sure why you don't have time for it - it's a simple matter of typing it up and signing it.

Don't you have to notarize it?

Essentially that is all - they can follow the format in the Example (you could even do it for them if you like and just have them sign it) - so it's kind of consistent - there is a place to sign and notarize (in the example) but notarizing isn't required. Relatively simple but I can feel the frustration you must be feeling.. :girlwerewolf2xn:

Why are you waiting until the last moment to get the RFE in? What was exaclty requested? What did you send inititally? This will help others who have filed or have yet to file to make sure all is well

Why is it that the only one who can stop the crying is the one who started it in the first place?

There's no reason why we waited so long. Just ... a bad move on our part. Initially we sent pictures and bank statements and income tax returns and copies of things such as theme park passes we hold with both names on it.

It's asking for rental information, letters from people who communally know us, statements from me (the resident removing conditions) about my marriage, financial records....

I think the main thing we need to provide is residence information. We rent a house with my sister in law from my husbands mother....

It's all so confusing and I will never leave it to the last minute again.

Well you can get it notarized at the post office if you have time to do it at your lunch break and that always makes it look better. It's not required but it just makes it more offical. You can also type affidavits or look at the one I just posted a second ago in my old post and copy paste it. Every little bit helps and it's worth taking a day off work to take care of. You may want to do that so there is less pressure on you.

Per USCIS instructions below in red. Many on VJ say that USCIS prefer to have notarized original affidavits from at least two people sent, but as you can see the instructions do not state that. So as Otto or Karin says go ahead and try it anyway without notarizing and get at least two or more to send in.

5. Affidavits sworn to or affirmed by at least two people who have known both of you since your conditional residence was granted and have personal knowledge of your marriage and relationship. (Such persons may be required to testify before an immigration officer as to the information contained in the affidavit.) The original affidavit must be submitted and also contain the following information regarding the person making the affidavit: his or her full name and address; date and place of birth; relationship to you or your spouse, if any; and full information and complete details explaining how the person acquired his or her knowledge. Affidavits must be supported by other types of evidence listed above.
