Hello All, ya'll have been so helpful on here, I cant believe it. Thank you so much for that. My fiancee Emily and I are trying to decide on our first meeting (yes, we are committed to each other even though we havent met in person), and the two choices are I can go see her in Dubai or she can come see me in the U.S. however, if I go to Dubai, it is much more expensive (several hundred dollars more) and I aint rich folk, he he. She is willing to come here but keeps saying it's mopre complicated. She lives in Dubai, UAE but is going home to the Philippines in October and would like to come to US at end of her time there, then back to Dubai to finish out her work contract. She says that it is required that a certificate of funds be given to the consulat to see if you have enough money to return I guess and that she is told there are other hoops to jump through. If she has a passport and a plane ticket and doesnt stay more than 30 days, isnt that all she has to worry about? Or is it much more complicated for her than me since I am American? Thoughts? Thank you everyone.

Also, she may not be able to get a tourist visa to come and visit at all. You could check around for different seasons to visit - figure out when the "low" tourist season is (in UAE or Philippines) and see if the ticket prices are more to your liking. Since you won't be going for the nice weather but to see her, it doesn't matter when you go.

Go to Dubai! Hunt for a cheap ticket, it's not that hard to find, Dubai is a very frequent destination.

If you plan on her to come to live in the US, you can at least visit he oncer, and see her life there.

You won't regret it, Dubai is a must see.

I love it, there's people from everywhere in world living there, you feel like it's the capital of world.

Now and during winter is the good season to go to Dubai, otherwise it's too hot. Though it's dry heat, it's not that bad.

Just my two cents. :)

Hey! I came from the Philippines. I've tried to apply for a Tourist Visa and I'm so lucky enough that it has been approved. I went to the US Embassy Manila, Philippines together with my parents. We're given multiply entry visa/10 years visa. All you need is to prove the consul that you'll be going back to the Philippines. Just give them assurance and evidences that shows you have a tie in the Philippines. Like job, assets, family/relatives. This is an advice for your fiance.

She can try to apply for tourist visa if she wants to. There's nothing wrong in trying. You have a lot of choices. You can meet her in the Philippines if you want to. It's more cheaper than going to Dubai. And one of the advantages is you will get a chance to meet her family/relatives and friends.

Good luck to both of you! :)

I would also suggest going to see her... it never hurts to get an idea of where your fiancee comes from or the kind of life she leads outside of the US. If you pay attention while you're there, later when she moves to the States to be with you, you can remember little things she had or enjoyed before and introduce them into her new life with you.

Also, don't forget that this is an expensive process... You can expect to pay up to and over $2000 just for the K-1 and AoS process. If money looks like it's an issue now, it may be something you want to address so that it doesn't present problems later. I personally have already spent almost $3,500 *just* in airfares to see Jesse over the last year and a half, international love sure ain't cheap :)

July 2007 - met Jesse at a beach party held by mutual friends in Long Island, NY

May 2008 - J-1 visa expired, had to move back to Australia

July 2008-September 2008 - lived with Jesse for three months in Staten Island, NY

March 2009 - Jesse comes to Australia for 3 weeks

April 2009 - Engaged!

05/20/09 - I-129F petition mailed in

05/22/09 - NOA1!

05/25/09 - touch

09/09/09 - NOA2!

10/01/09 - due to fiance's illness, we are abandoning pursuit of K-1 at this point. Packet 3 received from consulate but won't be returned.

talking about money matters, since she's going home on october- why not plan a trip to pi instead? i was in dubai, uae before and thats where my SO visited me. While checking on expenses comparing uae and pi, visiting pi is a lot cheaper than in uae. (fare, hotel, food, etc)

chances of her getting a tourist visa is almost nil... thou am not really sure how much she makes or what kind of job she does to prove her ties in uae....but an eg. is my roommate in dubai. She applied for US tourist visa and was holding an engineering works that makes Dhs 22,000 /month(usd$6,000), has a 6 mos old son to look after, own a big hse in pi (assets) yet she was still denied of visa. just to picture an example.

its still best that u visit her or otherwise, theres a good chance of more money and time spent trying her to visit you instead. Not trying to overlook her capabilities but just the hard truth esp being fr pi.

best of luck to you both. :star:
