Have anyone in this VJ from HCMC that had the medical exam NOT completed before the interview? Will they interview you without the medical exam result? What will happen after the interview if you pass it but the medical exam not yet completed?

My fiancee has to go through the asputum test (phlegm coughed up from the lung). It has been more than a week and she cannot get it out? Anyone have any tricks on how to get the phlegm (da`m) of the lung. She went to the hospital 2 times but fail to get it out. She has to come back next week.

Thanks in advance.

Nhatrang.

generaly government owned hospitals don't provide a good patient care, tell her to go to an upscale, private clinic. worth a try,

If you dont have the medical exam in time for the interview, have a letter prepared from the hospital that explains your fiancee situation with the date for each visit that she made there. Get as much detail from the hospital as you can. This can only help and is better than not having anything. I dont mean to sound negative but I am almost sure you will still get a blue slip for not having the required medical documents. You can always ask your fiancee to light up a smoke before she goes into the clinic, she may not stop coughing after that. Another thought, tell her to blow as much air out of her lungs as she can, this may trigger a good deep cough.

Good luck!

Bruce,

Thanks you for your advice. I am pretty sure she will have a blue one if the medical is not done by the interview date. We are very sad and worry but I hope we can update the medical result if she passes. I will ask her to get some written notes from the ChoRay hospital. This is the only one hospital that does lung examination (approved by HCMC).

If you do not have ALL, and I mean ALL required documents. The Vietnamese staff will send your fiance home right at the front desk where they go through your files, sort them, check them against their own check-list (not the same as our P4). If you are missing ANY thing, especiallly the Med-Exam, they WILL send you home and reschedule your Interview. You will not be allowed to meet/have your interview that day.

Unless they change now or miss to check your file, they you will get through the interview. But, on the day you arrive to get your Visa, they still can refuse issuing your visa until you return with all required document. Personal experience....

Can anyone confirm this practice is still going on in HCM Consulate? Vietnamese staff usually won't miss that kind of papers from the beneficiary's files.

Have you tried "PHAM NGOC THACH" or IOM to have your Med-Exam done there?

Good luck...

In nhatrang's case, I wonder is it possible to have another medical exam done at IOM after one has already been completed at Cho Ray? If possible, it might be worth a second opinion.

My fiancee had her medical exam done at IOM and it went very smooth. She needed USD to pay the exam fee, but that was easy to exchange for at a jewelry store nearby on Hai Ba Trung street! Exchange rate wasn't bad either.

She actually went to the IOM for the medical exam. The problem is that she had the chest x-ray. They found something in the x-ray. She did have lung problem about 11 years ago. Therefore, IOM automatically asks her to go to ChoRay hospital to have three asputum tests (phlegm coughed up from the lung). ChoRay is the only hospital in VN that US consulate approve for lung test.

The problem is that she is not sick anymore the last 11 years. How can she get the phlegm from the lung and three times in 3 contiguous days. That is the reason we are so stress out but I hope she can get it done next week.

Unfortunately I know she will get the blue slip if the test is not completed next week but IOM told her she can still continue the interview as schedule. She called the US consulate. They confirm she still can come to the interview without rescheduling.

My hopes right now are:

1. She will get the phlegm and the results

2. She can still be interviewed.

3. She can pass the interview

4. The medical exam is done and we can update them after that.

Excellent news that she can still continue with the interview even if the medical exam is not complete. I'm sure that was a relief for you to hear.

Best of luck to you both. Keep the hope and positive thinking. Everything happens for a reason!

That's a great news!!!! Confirm: IOM will issue her a paper states that she has done her Med-Exam? That's no problem then of couse she can continue her interview without reschedule. Your initial post gave me a different understanding, that she won't have the Med-Exam paper because she didn't complete her med-exam. Not everyone has the med-exam completed because of the timing and some of the requirement is not age-appropriate (too old to have it done).

It is a technicality to have all the papers at the front-desk when you arrive for your interview. The vietnamese staff just check and check to see if you have every piece of paper they require, the content won't be a great concern, not yet at least at that phase.

So, again, great news and I'm glad you will have all your documents/paperwork ready.

Chuck,

Sorry, I did not write it very clear. She did complete some of the medical exams at IOM and the results are fine. It's just the x-ray that is no good at IOM and they have to send her to ChoRay for additional lung test. So I hope she is okayed for the interview.

She also used IOM service to check all the documents before the interview. We have all the documents and evidences ready now.

How did she like the IOM document and evidence preparation service?

We looked into that, but I figured with me here in HCMC that there was no need to use that service.

STL_HCMC,

We like IOM a lot. They are very professional in the preparation. They will also meet her next week to do a final check and prep her for the interview.

I have an immigration lawyer prepared for our papers in the US before I found this VJ. She is doing a very nice job. I am not complaining. She actually called my fiancee last week to talk to her to prepare her for the interview. Since I am not with her during the interview process, I hope IOM will cool her down. The service is not bad: $50.00 for adult and $25.00 for children. They do really know what they are doing. So that helps while I am not there with her. I keep her inform from all the news from this group, all the questions from Matt, Chuck, etc. It really help us prepare. Thanks again, guys.

Hey...I am praying for you to get the PINK next week. Please keep us inform...Best of luck!!!

hello nhatrang,

I'm working as a Respiratory Therapist. It looks to me like your wife needs a Sputum Induction. which is used for those who cannot voluntarily cough up stuff from the lung. Sputum induction can be done by having one breathe through the cool mist generated by a nebulizer using hypertonic saline solutions (3% NaCl, 5% NaCl, or 10% NaCl, etc). Hypertonic saline irritates airways, causing one to cough.

I have done a lot of sputum inductions at work. Last time I came back to Vietnam, I brought all the equipments for my uncle's asthma. I could induct sputum with these equipments. So tell your wife to ask the hospital if they can let her breathe through some hypertonic saline. I figure that would greatly help. Let me know if I can help in anyway.

Have anyone in this VJ from HCMC that had the medical exam NOT completed before the interview? Will they interview you without the medical exam result? What will happen after the interview if you pass it but the medical exam not yet completed?
