When my wife first got her Vista laptop, had to download some kind of program from MS so I could transfer files to her lap with my XP box, worked good for about six months. Then with some kind of Vista upgrade, it quit working, went through all that password stuff and just went around in circles. Did a net search for compatibility upgrades, couldn't find anything, even called HP with no help. So just got a 2 GB memory stick instead, that works.

When it takes ten times as long to try to get this stuff to work, might just as well use the pony express to send files, the computer no longer has advantages.

If you really do a net search on these kind of problems, quickly learn when they fix one problem with an upgrade, they create ten new ones.

Either your router does not have DHCP enabled or the wireless adapter in Vista does not have obtain an IP address automatically set.

Vista does have a nice feature that allows you to repair a connection labeled "Diagnose"; under the network connection.

The third trick to wireless is to disable and then enable the wireless adapter via the network connections window.

Hold on to Window 7, better than Vista, but I still prefer XP

Let's say XP is 10 times faster than Vista

Window 7 is twice faster than Vista, and improvement over Vista but XP is still faster.
