Also another question next to the Peach Arch, I noticed a road that separates the US and Canada with homes on either side. Does anyone know how that works? It doesn't look like theres a fench or anything, just a marker. I'm just curious how they monitor that road (think it's called 0 road or something)...

Carefully. Heh.

But I do think they have patrols along there because that stretch of land and houses are prime spots for tunnel building and drug trafficking. I can't remember the exact details or when (I think it was in the last year), but there were a few articles in the Seattle Times about 1) the random road check points they have along that peninsula and how the town's sheriff absolutely hates the CBP that harass the citizens of that area, and 2) two articles about drug tunnel busts along the border and how they have several patrols around there. The sheriff of that town kind of got his 15 minutes of fame by refusing to turn over documents to the CBP saying that what they were doing was illegal and destroyed the government-given rights of the citizens and residents in the area. I don't really remember what happened after that though. There wasn't much follow up on the situation.

Other than that, no idea.

I've never been to Point Roberts, but my coworker crosses over there to buy gas.

I think that is the place I looked at on Google awhile back, a little pinsula thingy where the southern part is in the US, but the only way to leave the 12 or 16 block part is to drive into Canada and then around a bay into the US or take a boat.

I have been curious what school kids do on that section because without a school there, I imagine they have to go through Canada and then back into the US (2 customs) each just to get to school.

Those neighborhoods house a lot of the CBP/Canadian border guys and gals. They're also homes of people that live on one side and work on the other. There are five crossings in the vicinity and 0 Road and 8 Road both go to four of them.

They do get patrolled, but since a lot of CBP works there, I don't imagine a lot of people are going to risk the tunnels there. The majority of the tunnels have been found out in Abbotsford, between two of the crossings in farmland.

I would imagine that road and anything near the Peace Arch is bristling with unseen camera and surveillance equipment. You could probably take about 5 steps accross the border and any point near the Peace Arch or 0 Road and it be like the 5 finger palm technique on Kill Bill 2 :secret:

Having never seen Kill Bill 2 I will just assume the 5 finger palm technique is not a good thing.:secret:

Charles....here's a timbit for you!

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard
