How long are Spouse/Non-Immigration Visas Taking?

I sent an I129 Visa Application off to Chicago when I realized that our I-130 Visa will probably take 12-18 months. Has anyone sent their application to Chicago (that's where you send spouse <versus finace> visas) approved? If so, how long did it take and what did it entail?

Thanks!

hi newhampshire,

I hope you already filed the new petition for the K3. And maybe consider reading the IMBRA topic forum, since that is affecting K1's and K3's. The last two months there were not many K3's approved....maybe non at all. So it is actually very hard to predict how long it will take until your K3 is approved. I wouldnt count on any timeframe below 3 months, since there is a huge backlog at the MSC now.

Greets I.

Hi newhampshire, I started K3 in April and the only thing that has happened is an RFE (IMBRA). K3 folks imagined this would be the shortest route, but didn't count on the extra wait IMBRA created. Now, there's a distinct possibility our CR-1s may be quicker, or only marginally longer, so we have to seriously consider pursuing that visa instead. Even though it takes roughly a year, its benefits may tilt us in that direction, especially since the hoped for 6 months with K3 is fast becoming an impossible dream. But no one knows the actually timing yet, so perhaps your K3 gamble may have been a good one. Hope so.

I wouldn't give up on the K3 route ---- dunno, we'll see.... Recent movement on our K3 process has me inclined to say that they are moving once again. Yes, the IMBRA was a 2 month long hiccup, and probably created a backlog --- but I get the feeling things are going along now.

The K3's original intention was to speed the process for seperated families, and I don't believe that intent has gone away --- but certainly has been roughed up a bit over the past couple of months. We do have a CR1 application processing too, but my feeling is the K3 will be first.

BTW -- I am currently waiting for I-129F approval and sending of the app to Bogota. The recent email indicated to me that because preliminary processing has already been completed (meaning it sat waiting for IMBRA stuff), that the rest of the waiting/processing will be reduced (or less than the maximum).

newhampshire,

Neither I-129f (I-129 is for an non-immigrant worker) nor I-130 are visa applications - they are to qualify an alien to make a visa application.

All I-129f petitions for a spouse go to the Chicago lockbox, the receiving station for the National Benefits Center in Missouri.
