Hi everyone,

I figured I can get some help from you guys, since you all have experience in buying airline tickets (to visit loved ones overseas).

Anyway, my husband and I are planning on visiting Mexico this November. We bought airline tickets with Mexicana thru Expedia.com. However, there has been a change and we need to change our travel dates (move them up by two weeks). I called expedia to figure out what are the change penalties, etc and the lady I spoke to informed me that there is nothing that can be done. She said I bought a ticket where I can make no changes, cancellations, whatsoever. She said I must go on the dates specified or I lose my tickets.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I can possibly do???? Please help me out pleaseee.

I was doubtful from buying tickets online, and I totally regret it now. I will never buy tickets online EVER!

Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I call back to speak to someone else? Should I call Mexicana to see if they can do something? What are my options? Or am I stuck with the tickets I have?

u need to read the fine lines or restrictions about the ticket and then call and talk to someone supervisor and see what happen, goodluck.

Our time line for CR1 visa took only 5 months and 1 week or 156 days; from the filing the I-130 on the 03-12-2009 to Approval of NOA2 on the 05/13/2009, then Interview on the 08/18/2009 at Manila, Philippines. We had a daughter on the 11-12-2010 named AISHA JOY means HAPPY LIFE.a1_opt-1.jpga2_opt-1.jpga3_opt-1.jpg

No, there's nothing you can do.

This got nothing to do with "buying online" though.

Expedia is great to make a quick search, it gives you hints about what company to pick, then you should go check that company site directly and buy the ticket directly.

Cheap tickets are always not refundable, not cancellable, blabla. SOMETIMES you can make a change if you accept to pay a fee, fee is always quite expensive (half of the ticket price I'd say).

If you want a flexible date ticket, hrm, then the price is ABSOLUTLY not the same (about 5x as much).

You're stuck with the tickets you have.

Well I usually take a cancellation insurance though, which you can use if you have a health or work problem.

Did you take that kind of insurance when you picked the ticket?

For future reference...I usually use sites like Expedia, Orbitz or my favorite, Kayak.com to find the cheapest pricing, and THEN buy directly from the airline...in case I have to make a change.

As for your issue...there are gazillions of different fare rules....but most of the time, even on a non-refundable ticket, you can use it as credit toward the purchase of a more expensive ticket....but always has to be for the same person that was ticketed. Good luck.

I had a bad experience buying titks on line for my mom. I bought a tkt for her to be here with me on April 24th very close to my due date, I paid $425,great deal! but she had to change the date 'cause my baby came 6 weeks early, she did it at the airport and the penalty was over $700!!! can you believe that???? my mom had no choice but to pay for it.

I would also try it with the airline. I buy all my tickets online and sometimes the online travel agent refuses to change the ticket because it's a non-changeable reservation and then I just call the airline and give them a drama story. Works all the time - they usually charge a fee though or the difference to the new ticket price (if the cheap ticket class is not available anymore for the new reservation).

Good luck!
