hi all.

my husband had his naturalization interview on August 25th and passed and now has his oath ceremony on the 17th of September. There is a wedding for a family member a week and a half after his ceremony and he wants to travel home to Morocco to go. Im wondering if he can travel with his green card or does he have to try to get an expedited new passport? It would just be less stressfull for him to go with his green card and apply for the US passport when he comes back...

but im not sure if there are rules against that.

what do you all think?

thanks,

Sarah

Sarah, I'll give you the benefit of my own experience.

I was naturalised (ceremony complete) 2005/04/25, and had to leave for India 2005/05/11 (and, the way my trip was booked, using the Naturalisation Certificate for US reentry was not an option). I sent out for expedited processing and got the passport on 2005/05/07.

(note: it looks like Morocco does allow multiple citizenship, which may make possible the idea--albeit it is not technically legal--of your husband flying out on the Moroccan passport, carrying the Naturalisation Certificate in luggage and getting US passport at the US embassy/consulate)

salam

Here is what he will have to do. After he gets his Oath Certificate. He will need to go to the Passport agency in Boston, and ask for rush processing. In order to do that he will need a reservation for a trip that will take place within the next 2 weeks.

see more info from the site "he Boston Passport Agency only serves customers who are traveling, or submitting their passports for foreign visas, within 14 days. To apply at the Agency, you must schedule an appointment by calling toll-free at 1-877-487-2778, 24 hours/day"

Good luck
