Brad, That's a great story. Now the ex is beginning to realize that she didn't get the better part of the divorce. I hope you are still able to contact your children. I can see why you got divorced from this short-sighted woman.

Thanks for making the point real clear to a lot of us.

The truly odd thing is that she cares at all. I really don't know or care what she is doing, and wish her well, but the days of jerking my chain or manipulating me with bullsh1t like that ended years ago.

Speaking of MOA.... my wife is getting pretty good. She hasn't shot for a while but last time she did, she was posting groups in the 4 MOA range. Not competition level by any means, but able to hit steel at 300 with an AK is pretty good! (Offhand at that!)

And, as you know, AKs are not known for superior accuracy. Congrats to her! How's she with a pistola?

On a related subject, Vika and I went to the indoor range this week for the first time. The noise totally freaked her out, and the larger round hurt her hands. She isn't too keen on going back, and said that she doesn't want a smaller cal. gun either. What to do?

Brad,

How about two rolls of quarters wrapped inside the feet of old pantyhose and inside a sweatsock with a knot tied in the open end. Very effective, has good grip, won't hurt her hand and packs a hellavu blow.

Teach her to use a police baton. You can really knock the stuffing out of someone with one of those. Quarters in a sweatsock ? is that considered a blackjack? Is it legal?

Are you telling me it could possibly be illegal to put quarters in a sweatsock? No officer, it isn't a weapon. That's just how I carry my spare change.

I saw it and thought it was relatively interesting... It was odd being able to relate to/knowing the immigration and visa regulations when they mentioned them!

How's she with a pistola?

She hasn't shot one yet. We haven't been able to go to the range for quite a while but the next time we go it will probably be all 3 guns. She's familiar with the rifle and she can't wait to shoot that shotgun. We'll spend most of the day doing the .22 but then I'll add a clip or two for the pistol and a couple rounds of buckshot for the shotty. I doubt she'll want to shoot those too much, but she'll like being familiar with how they work.

On a related subject, Vika and I went to the indoor range this week for the first time. The noise totally freaked her out, and the larger round hurt her hands. She isn't too keen on going back, and said that she doesn't want a smaller cal. gun either. What to do?

Sit down across the dinner table from her (while she's enjoying the stinky fish) and ask her how she'd stop a man your size from raping her. Seriously. Look her in the eye and ask how she'd defend herself if someone was to break into your home and attempt to victimize her. If she doesn't want a gun then I'll bet she'll at least be happier knowing that she knows how to use one.

There are a million little improvised weapons and all are mildly effective when employed under the right circumstances. But there's absolutely no way I'd want my wife fighting a man while armed with a sweatsock. Here at home we have the "beater" by the door, kitchen knives, etc., (although we don't have a sweatsock stuffed with quarters prepositioned!) but the weaponry starts to increase in lethality and stand-off distance the farther you go. She may not be an expert on any of them, but she's familiar with all of them! (Except the sweatsock, of course!)

Most places that would outlaw a blackjack also outlaw a sweatsock full of quarters and even a police baton. All are weapons when used as weapons. What you guys need to keep in mind is the "reach" of a weapon. If your ol' lady can swing a sock full of quarters she's covering, what, six feet? Same with a baton. A knife is way shorter but all are dependent upon a strike or swing... and a lot of training and practice. Sure our wives can be scary when they're pissed off, but they don't look very scary to a home invader.

Now, an angry wife holding a shotgun.....

Actually, she just reminded me - she did shoot the .45 once. Once is the key word there.

Well, my wife and I were at a picnic on labor day and one of my friends brought an atlatl. My wife really got into that and she got pretty accurate. It's not really practical in a home invasion situation because of the ranges involved, but it's still scary. Actually, women throwing spears are really sexy. Hence Amazons and Valkyries.

My point, thanks. The magnum loads were WAY too strong. To answer the other questions above, she will use the 357 in the home, but loaded with low grain .38s (those I-live-in-an-apartment loads).

Shouldn't your house be safe enough that no one can get in, unless you want them in. I was the victim of a pretty serious crime. At that point I realized it is much better to make the house more castle with moat like than trying to defend the turf.

Now, an angry wife holding a shotgun.....

Yes, but what if she gets angry  with you??? :bonk:

I yet cannot get it ...

... what is it with the people of this country's love affair with guns???

Can't people leave happy without guns? I do not get it ...

... my best friend's brother killed himself with his father's gun (in Russia).

I wonder if people would love guns so much if they had one (or two) pointed at their heads (by criminals) like it happened to me and has happened to a few members of my family. People, guns kill!

One thing I will try to NEVER introduce in my family is guns, even if my Russian SO loves them. I may reluctantly buy her a dog, but never a gun.

Enough said!

To each their own. *shrugs* It's how you're brought up, things you've been experienced to, and ultimatly you're own personal choice to own one or not.

When seconds count, the police are minutes away.

Most trained gun owners will never use their firearm in self-defense, because of all the things others say about making their house safe and making wise choices.

I know how to use mine and I can but I never expect it. I also have taken many training classes and am not a threat to society.

Many folks believe that if concealed carry is granted, then everything will become like the Wild West movies.

Most folks, including yourself, will not pass the mental or actual testing to be able to have this license.

Another reason to own a firearm is because you can. Let's not get into a Second Amendment, US Rights discussion, but we really should.

If you give up your rights, then the government will rule over you and you will eventually not like it.

It's like trapping wild pigs.....Ask if you care to know the story.

Was the gun pointing at you by itself?

Was it being held by some human being?

Who do you think was in control then? The gun? or The person?

Seems to me that it's the evil people that are the problem, not the guns. They just sit there. Evil people are the problem.

The sooner you realize this the sooner you will have your answer.

Evil people are the problem. When the government takes away the guns from law-abiding citizens, they are EASY PREY for the non-law-abiding criminals.

Please think about it.

No more guns may not be the solution, but until we can eradicate the evil criminals (Darwin should rule here.), then we should be able to protect ourselves.
