Name check documents recieved

Is this normal? When I received my visa last week it was not in the envelope I had supplied, it was in a cardboard envelope and within the envelope was the do not open envelope which was much smaller that I thought it would be considering everything they wanted. Beside the do not open envelope there were loose papers, some were the originals that I requested be returned but with them were 28 pages of name checks that were done in 2006 in California at the beginning of our process. 2 of the pages were for Sharon's maiden name and her present name, the other 26 pages are mine, I have of course a family name, I also have 5 other initials which were checked in many different combination.

My question is, is it normal to have received the name check documents and if not has anyone else have this happen to them.

I have never heard of this happening before. It sounds like those are documents that were supposed to be contained within the 'do not open' yellow folder. I wonder if the Immigration officer sealed up your envelope, then realized those should have been added and was too lazy to re-open the envelope so put them in the cardboard container instead. The only other possibility is if they think you had a FOIA request for those documents so included them.

Regardless, you might want to make a photocopy of them and then 'offer' them back in case they are supposed to be with your file.

After reading the top page more closely I am sure they were not meant for my eyes. What I didn't read before because the font is very light was "For Official Use Only" Do Not Distribute Beyond DHS without Prior Authorization for the Originator. What it is , is (Record of IBIS Query - California Service Ccenter. Time to contact Montreal

Interesting view into the immigration process, but agree with Kathryn41, you should offer them back as part of the file, I think they would only release these pages as part of a separate FOIA/FOIPA request which has its own forms/process (and takes about a year)...

There was nothing really to these document other than showing the manner they proceed and the end results. Anyone can with no thought at all can figure the process, the one thing that can't be figured is the end result.
