How long will it take to get SSN and card?

I'm wondering if the Social Security administration will send me my SSN...or do I need to personally apply for it in their office? I thought that if you filed for CR1, in which we filled out a form where we are asked if we like to apply for SSN and send it to us by mail, we don't need to apply personally once we get to US. But, please let me know because I badly need my SSN. Have a great time VJers.

My mom arrived last Aug. 27,2009 and she rcvd. her SS card eight days after by mail.

If you checked the box on the DS-230 it is suppose to be sent to you in about three weeks. But as this thread and many other threads implies it does not always happen. I would suggest going the the Social Security (SS) office. It normally takes about 10 working days to receive the card in the mail after going to the SS office

hi,, yeah thats what i thought too, that once you have checked the box on DS-230 SSN will automatically send to us, but the things is, i havent received anything from SS office, my GC arrived for almost a month and i waited for my SSN to come for almost a week after i received my GC,.

To make sure about my SSN, i called the SS Office ( you can reach them by calling 1-800-772-1213), and they told me that they havent received my documents, so they just instructed me to drop by at their office to apply for my SSN.. and a week after i applied i got my SSN..

If you really need your SSN, go make a phone call to make sure if they have process your SSN or you have to visit their office..

We checked the box, but my wife never got her's so we drop by the ss office. They say 7-10 days!
