how come every time we have a discussion about abortion, it veers rapidly away from a woman's right to choose to killing a baby a few hours before it is due? who has an abortion the day b/f a baby is due to be born? i thought there were only 3 states that allowed for late-term abortions....

A baby is a baby. Whether its in the womb or not. You're joke about sperm isn't funny.

A fetus is not a baby. Abortion is not murder. It is however a complex issue and not one that is going to be discussed sensibly on VJ OT. I don't give a ###### if you found my comment funny or not.

The difference between a "fetus" and a "baby" is mainly one of location, whether inside or outside the womb. It isn't a biological difference, but a legal and/or emotional one.

I'll ask my sister the OB/Gyn about that... somehow I think your interpretation is a bit imposed on actual biology.

The biological issue is viability.

As you may know, most abortions are performed before the start of the third trimester, but that in itself isn't biology.

That's as I understand it - if the fetus can survive on its own outside of the womb raises a different set of considerations than you'd get with say an early term fetus. But even there its not clear cut - as you do have late term abortions in the event that tests determine that if born the child would suffer from significant physical defects/disabilities.

As to ideology, I don't consider it my place to impose my views onto what is a very complicated emotional decision for the parents. That's really the essential point about "choice".

This whole concept of assigning a "right to life" by such a flimsy guide as "Survive ability" is most certainly a

principle built on shifting sands of medical progress.

When scientists can transplant fetuses to artificial wombs to continue gestation to maturity, there may well be a different set of considerations to the issue.

But as these things don't exist, there aren't.

Or if they could implant them into the actual anti-abortion crowd... it would be perfect. Cut out abortion altogether; and have the anti-abortion crowd put their money where their mouth is.

2. Do you welcome your same logic across the board: if libs want to do a social program, THEY SHOULD ONLY VOLUNTEER THEMSELVES TO BE INVOLVED IN IT?

1. My earlier thought includes the ability for males to gestate, since we have so many pro-life males interested in imposing their views upon others. But to address your Dannologic more appropriately, I bet you're not really dedicating much though to the entire picture (not surprising). Gestation is only the start. If you're willing, go ahead and pay the costs associated with getting that baby to 18 years of age (or 25 in some cases).
