Now while in Canada i was with FIDO i had incoming free anytime (which is not available here with any provider) Also i am not looking for a fancy phone i need smthng just to recieve and call back

To my knowledge the is not any plan that has incoming free calls. The "incoming free" calls are normal in most other countries but not here. The best you can do I believe is get a plan where you can have the family and friends setup and talk for free with those limited amount of people on that list. The remaining calls you make off that list will fall under normal charges. I would question the comment about T-mobile and Cingular. Both of those suppliers are GSM networks and should work but you may incure roaming charges if they do not have agreements in place. Investigate the coverage maps for your area and the areas you will normally make calls.

Hope this helps a little.

We have tried Cingular but cannot seem to get connections and keep the bars on the phones. We went with Alltel and have never been happier. Its a 2yr plan but its worth it. Phones were free 2, we have 1000 shared minutes. After 7pm and weekends calls are free nationwide. You can get less min on your plan if you wish for less. We pay 90 something a month. Alltel has a plan called Circle of Friends: you can add your friends doesnt matter who their carrier is and calls are free to them. We also get free mobile to mobile and free calls to home. The customer service is great and we are very pleased with Alltel.

Its called the nationwide plan we are on.

One other quick thought. If you already have a phone(s) that work with T-mobile then you do not need a new phone for Cingular. All you need is the SIM card from Cingular and put it in and turn the phone on. Some of the companies offer free phones with their plans also. The coverage addressed in other replies depends on your area and the coverage. I have Cingular where I live and have no problems. I have friends that live an hour from here and Cingular would ot work well for them. They need Alltel. So again I would investigate your area of need for the cellular and the coverage maps for each company. Also talk with friends and solicate their opinions.

Not exactly that easy. If the phones are branded (T-mobile, Cingular, ect.), they are probably locked to the carrier. Most phones can be unlocked. Depending on the brand of phone, sometimes it's as simple as entering a code, other times it will require the phone to be sent out and unlocked.

We originally had a 'local' phone with a company called metropcs - it was a fairly low flat-rate charge which was excellent because DH lives on the phone for work and it only cost fifty bucks a month whether he made a hundred calls or a thousand - and it's always closer to a thousand :P The big disadvantage of that phone was that it was 'south-Florida-only' and if you went anywhere else they had a very high roaming call cost.

We just switched to T-mobile becuase the phones will work practically anywhere in the US and we're giving it a try with their thousand minute family plan, but DH kept his local phone for business calls. I don't think ANYONE has 'free incoming calls', or we'd have them...
