Hi everyone,

I need help with putting together the I 130 application for my mother. I'm a US citizen and would like to bring my mother who lives in the Congo.

I've read on USCIS that the only document needed is my birth certificate and an affidavit of support, but I just want to make sure all the required documents are there before sending the package.

So, could someone be nice enough to tell me exactly what I need to gather before sending the petition? Are photos required?

Also, I live in Virginia, and I'm not sure where I should send my package. I'm confused about local/regional offices.

Thank you, :star:

Thanks,

So my birth certificate is all I need to send for now? Will I be asked more paperwork only after my petition has been approved?

Also, can I send my application anytime, or are there specific dates and deadlines when I 130 petitions are reviewed?

Thanks :star:

A copy of your citizenship certificate is also required. If your mother's name is now different than the one on your birth certificate, you will need documentation to prove this. Read the guide. Your situation is only four lines. Don't know why you think your birth certificate is the only document you would need.

Yes, you will need to supply more paperwork after the petition is approved. Look up I-864 and DS-230.

There are no magic time to file. You will need to send requested information within certain time period or the petition will be considered abandoned. Read the Guides for basic information. Read the instructions for Form I-130 for more information.

Thank you aaron2020,

I'm just confused about what I'm supposed to send initially and what I need to send after the petition has been approved. The basic information only mentions birth certificate of the person filing the petition to show the mother-daughter relationship, I don't see anything else. But I just want to make sure I have everything. I don't want my petition to be incomplete and consequently be denied.

You need to read more carefully then if you think the Guide only mentions your birth certificate.

I am a U.S. Citizen and Petitioning for:

* My mother:

If you are applying to bring your mother to live in the United States, you must file the following with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (please note: if you have been legally adopted, you may not petition for your birth parent):

o Form I-130, Petition for Alien Relative (if you are filing for both parents, you must file a separate petition for each parent)

o A copy of your birth certificate showing your name and your mother’s name

o If your name or your mother’s name is different now than at the time of your birth, you must provide evidence of the legal name change.

o If you were not born in the United States, a copy of either

+ your Certificate of Naturalization or Citizenship or

+ your U.S. passport

Thank you kokobearus :):)

Hi Kimia,

I am going through the same process for my parents in Senegal. I just created the thread below in the "Africa: sub-sahara" section for people in our situation. My parents I-130s have already been approved and the NVC process got completed as well. Hopefully, we can share our experiences there.
