Hello! I have a few questions. Please answer them if you have any information.

1. Does anyone have an immigration attorney? Is it helpful?

2. Is it important to visit my fiance AFTER i send in the I-129??? I am a teacher and so I spent the summer with him, but now I don't have any breaks long enough until next summer.

3. How do you prove the phone records are between you and your fiance since they don't have your name and his name on them?

4. SHould I get letters to put in his 'proof of relationship' stuff from family members?

5. We are so worried. I am 25 and he is 31, both neither been married. I went to Nigeria on a mission trip in 2008 and we fell in love...we are just two normal people with nothing to hide...What can we do to make this a success?

6. What is a normal timeline? I want to get my dress and book a reception place!?! Is it crazy to try to guess a month?

7. He was denied a student visa twice in June of this year. Will that affect anything? Will it delay his visa time for his appointment?

8. Are the appointments only in Lagos or Abuja as well?

9. What can I be doing NOW to get ready for the next step?

10. What is the police report? Where can he get that and can he get that now?

11. What doctors stuff does he need? Does he need immunizations? Can he get them now?

12. I am a teacher and make a modest salary. How much money should I have in my account in order for my affadavit to be ok?

13. Are you supposed to have other affadavits??

Thanks so much for your help! Please e-mail me at thatsmyemmy@yahoo.com

Read the Guides and flow charts here on VJ to learn about the process. You will find answers to many of your initial questions there.

Lagos is regarded as the #1 visa fraud post for US immigration so be prepared to document your relationship and provide far more than the minimum evidence.

Also read in the Africa regional forum to learn from others going through Lagos.

Don't make any wedding plans that you can't cancel or reschedule without penalty. The best advice is don't plan until you have the visa in hand.

Welcome and good luck to the both of you.

Hello! I have a few questions. Please answer them if you have any information.

1. Does anyone have an immigration attorney? Is it helpful? Many don't use them but Nigeria can be a really tough embassy especially if you have any red flags.

2. Is it important to visit my fiance AFTER i send in the I-129??? I am a teacher and so I spent the summer with him, but now I don't have any breaks long enough until next summer.

It isn't required but it may help with Nigeria.

3. How do you prove the phone records are between you and your fiance since they don't have your name and his name on them? Your records should show calls to the same number over and over.

Build up evidence as best you can. Letter sent snail mail don't expect them all to arrive they have a high lost in transit ratio.

6. What is a normal timeline? I want to get my dress and book a reception place!?! Is it crazy to try to guess a month? Lagos has no normal time line. K1's are taking about 4-5 months to get out of the service center and to NVC but interviews are all over the place 2-5 months and there is a high rate of AP and denial so don't put money down until you have a visa.

7. He was denied a student visa twice in June of this year. Will that affect anything? Will it delay his visa time for his appointment? It shouldn't affect anything just remember they assume every couple in Nigeria are fraudulent

8. Are the appointments only in Lagos or Abuja as well? Only Lagos

9. What can I be doing NOW to get ready for the next step? Get your tax records income stuff ready.

10. What is the police report? Where can he get that and can he get that now? Wait until just before the interview . They expire too quickly and you can't get it without your Nigeria case number.

11. What doctors stuff does he need? Does he need immunizations? Can he get them now? He could get the immunizations now but the medical has to wait. You have to use their doctor and once again have a Nigerian case number

12. I am a teacher and make a modest salary. How much money should I have in my account in order for my affadavit to be ok? Assuming you have no children you need 125% ( only 100 % ) of the poverty level . If you dont make enough line up a co sponsor.

13. Are you supposed to have other affadavits?? Oh did I mention that Lagos will assume your relationship is fraudulant

It will be better to visit after you file I-129 then if you can't, it's shouldn't hurt as long as your pictures (the one you send with the original package) is legit

What we did was phone cards so save your phone cards and even if you can get you phone bills that's if you use your phone directly, at least that shows you've been calling Nigeria

Proof of relationship example is under the K1-VISA guideline/timeline flow chart. You just have to put something in writing of how you met and probably your engagement.

If you've got nothing to hide then just follow the instruction on this website, they have been of great help to us

My personal experience is not advisable to book a hall or fix a date without approval or even VISA in hand. We where supposed to get married in the next 2 week Sept 26, 2009 and filed Feb 26, 2009 but did not get approval till Sept 8th. We have to cancel all our reservations so please don't waste your money.

With timeline is varies, it just depends on your processing center, ours was 6.5 months

Please tell him and I beg you to disclose that you have applied for a student visa before and was denied, if you lie they have everything in their records. That should not affect him unless you have anything to hide with that.

Appts are in both Abuja and Lagos... I have learned over the years that Abuja is the best place because they are not a lot of people and it's quicker

Just provide all accounts records whether you need them or not

These are all I know pertaining to your question. I am not sure people will email directly so check back for responses. Keep praying God never fails.

YOu do not need to visit after you file. Sounds like you spent a significant amount of time with him. They way you met is more significant then the usual way, which is online or thorugh a friend.

You do not need a lawyer. My lawyer hindered our case mroe then helped.

Use Pingo.com. You get good deals and they track yoru phone calls.
