Why doesn't the 'world'd talk about visas???

I just happened to get done work early today and caught the tail end of an episode of Ellen (love that show). Anyways, she was talking with the couple from The Bachelorette... I didn't know that she was Canadian, and he lived in the US. I'm ignorant to the details, I know...I don't know her or him or their situation... but did they mention Visas or immigration? No of course not. They did mention marriage and engagement, and how she's moving this week from Vancouver to Chicago to live with him, but that they'd 'like to get married within the next year and a 1/2 or so', but are focusing on doing charity stuff, and living and working together etc... like a 'regular' couple. How can they do that?? I'm sorry, but ANYONE here feel like a 'regular' couple?!? raise your hands?! Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?? Why can't real life be like hollywood?!! LOL

We don't have it easy... our friends, family and colleagues don't understand what we have to go through just to be together. BAH!!! Sorry, frustration is high....

on the plus side.. they ended the show with a guy on a flaming pogo stick (seriously)... so that was cool..

Are you allowed to come and go (reentry) when you are on a work visa?

I would think so ... but, it seems to me like they make A LOT of special arrangements for celebrities. Granted, I have very little basis in saying that ... it just seems to be that way :P

Yeah, from immigration point of view it all seems pretty fishy...isn't it so that the immigration law is all the same for everyone ;) Maybe Jullian posted on VJ and we just do not know LOL

Yeah I think since she's a celeb and ABC paid for her immigration lawyer no doubt, she likely got special treatment! I doubt she's on a K-1 since they are only getting married next year

Probably under the "Person of/with Extraordinary Abilities" clause..

Yes I believe it's the O visa class which all atheletes, actors etc would come in on. The O visa class probably has provisions for one to marry and become permenant similar to living here on an H1B visa where intent is allowed. Other immigration status classes like the TN are temporary and do not allow intent, but many of the other do.

So that would be my best guess as well...

I'm just a wanderer in the desert winds...

While it all does seem fishy, I know that not every celebrity (and I would hope not all of them) get away with things just because of their status -- at least when it comes to immigration stuff...

What I mean is...

When David and Victoria Beckham moved from England to the States (when he was trasferred to the LA team), they applied for their bodyguard/housing staff to come with them, and the entire team of workers were apparently denied their work visas because there are people in the States that can do that type of work, so Posh and Becks had to hire a whole new team for the States. Don't know how true that is, but I would think it'd be pretty accurate since, after they moved, there were suddenly new people around them.

It'd be so nice if things went the way they do in Hollywood. Wouldn't have to worry about co-sponsers and paying fees. I'm sure a couple grand for fees would be a drop in a bucket.... oh, to be rich would most definitely be nice.... :x
