Hey there - My wife (American) and myself (Irish) have been living in Ireland since January 2009. We applied for a Green card for myself and got our I-130 approved - I have all the other documents ready and waiting to mail, however, I recently found out that if you have lived in Ireland for over 6 months (which my wife has) you can apply through the Dublin embassy. I have called the NVC and they say Dublin can request to take our case. I just have questions about whether this is a good idea and is the time frame likely to speed up or slow down because of this?

Thanks

the advantage of a direct filed I-130 at the embassy is to take out the USCIS... you are past that.... no real advantage from here on out for you

YMMV

Me personally, wouldn't try to change it. You are at NVC stage anyway, so go with it. Trying to transfer case from NVC to Dublin could slow things down and make confusion. But you could also talk to Dublin USEM and see what they get to say  In any way, good luck and have a speedy process

I phoned the NVC they said that it could take months before my case is transfered to dublin once approved, surely it would stop that wait?

I don't think it would. I've read of other ppl who did DCF and NVC stage in their case took also about 2 months, so it's up to you to decide now. Go and read more in DCF thread on VJ so you'll get an idea of it

Thanks, I guess I would feel a lot better knowing the case is being dealt with only a few hours away, not across the atlantic, having documents sent etc would be far easier. Also I am concerned because we both live in Ireland, so my wife doesn't have a job payslips etc from america. Another quick question. Are they likely to deny us a green card because neither of us have a job in america? We have a sponsor, but we both work here!
