Flight to US - finding the best deal

I know many people have talked about buying a round trip ticket vs a one way ticket. I just looked at flights and about had a heartattack for the cost when we are hoping that Kathe will be able to come to the US. It is cerca 903$ to fly roundtrip, but to fly from LIM to CLE it is over 1400$ one way!!!!!

Is it possible to buy the round trip tickets and only use the return flight?

Yep - it's not a problem.

Just a side note- the airlines do appreciate if you call them like a week or so before the return flight and tell them you aren't going to be there. Someone at Northwest told me they always oversell because it happens all the time and that it's just easier when they know ahead of time someone wont' be there.

And so he did what countless punk-rock songs had told him to do so many times before: he lived his life

10/07/2006 WEDDING DAY!

11/14/2006 AOS packet made it to 'the box' after being overnighted.

12/02/2006 Paul had biometrics

12/14/2006 AOS Forwarded to CSC AND AP Application approved.

01/20/2007 Touched AGAIN (also the 18th) come on...

February: Oops, RFE for a REGISTERED marriage certificate. Oops! Overnighted it.

02/28/2007 Paul gets email letting us know his GREENCARD is on it's way! It's done...for now!

03/09/2007 Paul's greencard arrives. And breathe...

We began with mailing the I-129 in on February 27, 2006 so the whole process took us approx. one year.

Good luck out there!

well, i am asking about not using the initial leg of the flight (from the US to Peru) and only the return leg (Peru to US). does that create a problem?

Unfortunately, yes. If you are a "no show", then the rest of your reservation is likely to be canceled.

What are your preferred flight dates ?

example:

DET to LIM roundtrip -> 850 (DEC 31 - JAN 7)

LIM to DET roundtrip -> 1150 (JAN 7 - JAN 14)

LIM to DET one way -> 2610 (JAN 7)

that is putting us on the same flights on JAN 7.

brtlmj is correct. if you do not use the first leg of a booking the remaining portions are cancelled. all you can do is find the best price for any booking originating in LIM.

I got a roundtrip TKT LIM-NY-LIM , RT are way cheaper than one way, flights are very expensive right now I'm looking forward to visit my family in Peru for Christmas and each tkt via Lan Chile (direct flight) is about $1300. I offered my husband that this time I'll pay for his tkt (I feel bad 'cause he went to Peru 11 times to visit me and 've expended alot of $$ just on tkts) so I saved and now I'm ready to expend $2600 on tkts, people think that I'm crazy but to be honest I don't care, I can't wait to see them again waiting foe me (us)at the airport.

Good Luck, I hope you find a good deal... :thumbs:

ok, good deal, that is what i needed to know. I can get a cheaper flight for her if she flies seperately, but I would prefer that we travel back together. Added to the budget....... :)

that is what i am going to have to have to do. I can save about 500$ if she flies a different airline back, but with her not being used to flying to being with, then the whole ordeal of customs and immigration and changing flights, etc, it will just be too much for her i think.

Procrastination on air travel is very expensive. The prices increase rapidly as the travel date nears.
