I was surprised illegal immigrants are going to be covered.

I'm surprised you haven't gotten the memo yet: They are not.

Really so they'll still have to go to the emergency room. That is just going to continue to overwhelm the emergency room in some states.

That is an immigration enforcement issue that will also need to be tackled.

I hope they are too busy to tackled immigration. There are a lot of hopeless people in the world and as a wealthy nation, we should do more to help them, not punish them just because they were born on the wrong patch of earth.

Immigration needs to be tackled eventually and the illegal immigration needs to be addressed effectively. If those that are born "on the wrong patch of earth" all come to the US, then the US will be the "wrong patch of earth" very quickly. Open borders is not a policy, it's a declaration of defeat.

Here's a poll from the AP

"WASHINGTON – Public disapproval of President Barack Obama's handling of health care has leaped to 52 percent, according to Associated Press-GfK poll that underscores the country's glowering mood as the White House made a renewed pitch for an overhaul.

Just 42 percent approve of the president's work on the high-profile health issue. The survey was released Wednesday before his nationally televised effort to persuade Congress and voters to back his drive to reshape the nation's $2.5 trillion-a-year medical system."

Grand. Youw ant to use a poll taken before the President addressed the joint session of Congress to make the point that the address didn't have an impact? You're some piece of work.

The survey of 1,001 adults with cell and landline telephones was conducted from Sept. 3-8. It had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.

So you're telling me that most democrats were undecided before this, and after the speech they magically changed their minds? since you yourself say only 18% of Republicans watched the speech.

I'm so sure that this HUGE amount of people changed their minds after the speech. That is naive.

Where did I say that? Can you read poll results?

I'm so sure that this HUGE amount of people changed their minds after the speech. That is naive.

Again, nobody made that claim. What's naive is to sit there pretending that the impact of the push the President made last night can be gauged from either a poll that was taken prior to that push taking place or can be gauged among those that didn't bother to listen to the President. If you want to take part in a debate on whether or not Obama's address to the joint session of Congress had a positive impact, then you should look at the reactions after the event and perhaps look at the relevant poll results and be aware what they represent. Otherwise you just put on diplay that you let the sour grapes get the best of you.

So you're still holding that a poll that asked 45% dem and 18% rep is accurate? Again, how do you know who watched it?

Dude, relevant sampling is a fairly well established process. How is it relevant whether I know who watched the President speak?

ETA: Republican opinion on the effort is going to be fairly irrelevant seeing that the GOP has made abundantly clear that they will oppose whatever reform effort is proposed. They're declared goal is the unsustainable, immoral and irresponsible status quo. So, who should really give a ** what they think and support?

Exactly, it all comes down to "who should really give a ** what they think and support"

Anyone you disagree with shouldn't be asked. In fact, you'd be happy if it were 100% dem who was asked in the poll.

Democrat opinion on the effort is irrelevant as well, seeing that the D.A.P. made abundantly clear they will rubber stamp whatever reform effort is proposed (so long as it is a public option).

Not that I should be surprised but you're wrong again. The long and short of it is that debating a reform effort with those that oppose reform - any reform - for the sake of making the health care reform effort Obama's Waterloo is a futile exercise. That is why I believe it matters not what the Republicans think. If they want to engage in the debate and be part of the reform effort, many doors were opened and many hands reached across the aisle. Obama did that again yesterday in his speech. He also made clear, however, that it's time to either get on board or be left behind.

Again, you're ill informed. And again, I'm not surprised. If this was the case, the debate would be over by now. Democrats held the relevant majorities prior to Sen. Kennedy's passing. And yet, there's debate and disagreement within the Democratic caucuses as to how to reform the health care system.

Bottom line, moderates, do not believe in this president and they hold his future. He is truly stupid and truly has no clue or plan otherwise he would have been out front on this many months ago and been able to answer questions. Which once again he did not do last night, he never talks details or specifics and can not even explain what he wants so why believe him for he is lying. And you liberal loving tree hugging wackos that support Ovomit wonder why the moderates do not jump on board and support him??? Hello they know they do they commit political suicide and that they are not going to be re-elected. He still will not account for how he is going to pay for this plan of his and just how or who it will truly cover and how good the quality will be. And the CBO has stated numerous times that there is simply no way Ovomit can do what he is promising or well lying about all the time in these speeches of his, it is not possible what he says. So let me RECALIBRATE, he is totally wrong and telling a tall windy story on this health care reform. It will not pass this year or next and if it does and it is a screwed up watered down hodge podge of stuff then he is really going to be labeled a flop and have a lot explaining to do to those folks that he is raising their taxes for!

The President did an excellent job last night to make a very compelling case for the need of health care reform. He took on those that have but one irresponsible goal in mind - keeping the status quo - namely, the liars in the GOP and the scare tacticians in the health insurance industry.

Good thats what I was hoping you'd say. So all reps are against it, and at least a good portion of dems are against it. However, everyone should shut up and do what Obama says.

It's really a small portion of Democrats in the House and Senate that hold up the reform effort. Had you paid attention, I've faulted the Democratic party for awhile now for not moving this forward. I said many weeks ago to forget about the GOP in this effort and focus on the Democrats' failure to deliver what they were elected to deliver. The Democrats have two options at this point. Either move forward and get it done or pay the price in the next election.

Which the latter seems more applicable. Not that the reps deserve to get back in power yet. I was for their punishment in 2006. They still don't seem to have gotten the message.
