Not to be silly - but did you really not know what EI is? It's been taken off your paycheque as a deduction since the day you started working in Canada. Perhaps you're the USC qand that's why you weren't aware?

Actually, I don't look at my paychecks except for the final amount and what goes into the vacation pay

There is an EI CONT thing now that I look at one, but I still really wouldn't have know what it was.

I've never really looked into Employment Insurance, since I've never really needed it.

Sorry, my blonde was showing :innocent:

That's ok...it used to be called 'UI' or unemployment insurance which kind of made more sense to me anyway.

Depending on whetehr the person fits the criteria talked about above, yes....it's handy if they'll pay you during the time between when you arrive and when you're eligible to work in the US. Better then nothing for sure

I'm also only 21 and have hardly started working for a living, probably another reason I dont know about EI.

We all learn eventually.

I feel much better, I'm old enough to be your mother :) Yes - super idea to educate yourself on all this stuff. Most of us are confused after reading it anyway, but that's why VJ is here

I am receiving EI right now. i quit my job and listed as the reason - relocation due to marriage. just make sure to tell them that you are looking for a job and give them examples of what kind of work you are applying for. Also, EI takes effect after you get your EAD work permit. Before that you apply and wait.

The Lord is my strength and my shield,

My heart trusted in Him and I am helped,

therefore my heart greatly rejoices,

and with my song I will praise Him.

Psalm 28:7
