Ok, my fiance has a child. So when she is filing out the DS-156 online, there is a button that says generate family duplicate. Does she press this button BEFORE she would click the CONTINUE button?

Also, a question about item #36 - Has Anyone Ever Filed an Immigrant Visa Petition on Your Behalf?

This is both our first K1 visa. So do we answer no to this or yes, and she would put my name?

Not sure how the computer format works. Try it. I printed out blank forms for our K-1/K-2 and filled them by hand. I am so old fashoned that way.

If it is your first visa (K-1 is not an immigrant visa, by the way) then the answer is "no"

Not that good filing out by hand anymore as no information goes in the barcode. That sopositly can slow down your processing.

K1 denied, K3/K4, CR-1/CR-2, AOS, ROC, Adoption, US citizenship and dual citizenship

!! ALL PAU!

I didn't even HAVE bar codes. I printed the blank forms and THEN filled them in for each applicant. The consulate printed them and slapped on labels. Our interview lasted 30 seconds, no questions, just handing back the original documents and photos and the "pink card" Interview on Thursday, visa in hand (delivered to the opposite end of the country) on Monday. You mean it could have been faster? Dammit.

Was it the current online "e-form", or was it an editable PDF?

The new "e-form" generates a finished PDF which is ready for printing. All of the information you enter is collected into a rectangular bar code box on the final page. Consulates can enter the entire form contents into their computer system by simply scanning the bar code box. If you enter information by hand and the clerk processing the form doesn't notice, then the information might not be entered into the computer system.

For the "Generate Family Duplicate" feature, the instructions say to complete and print the primary applicant's DS-156, and then use the browser's back button to go back to the editable form page and click the "Generate Family Duplicate" button. If you don't at least create and save the PDF for the primary applicant, you'll probably lose much of that information when you click the "Generate Family Duplicate" button.
