Hello All My Fellow International Fiancees!

Just got the good news that our petition was approved and my fiance is being sent his packet for his consular interview. The only odd thing is that he lives near Cancun, Mexico and the interview will be way up north in the city of Juarez. I'm a little concerned because of all the violence taking place there recently. Does anyone know why they give the interview there and not in Mexico City? Also, can you request the interview take place at a different embassy in Mexico?

Appreciate any feedback you might have!

Gracias!

Sherry

According to the information on Visa Journey, this is where the interviews are carried out for spousal petitions. No other embassy option is offered for Mexico.

Juarez is the only consulate in Mexico that processes immigrant visa applications, and under State Department rules K visas can only be processed at IV posts.

Moving to Embassy and Consulate Discussion.

Improved USCIS Form G-325A (Biographic Information)

Form field input font changed to allow entry of dates in the specified format and to provide more space for addresses and employment history. This is the 6/12/09 version of the form; the current version is 8/8/11, but previous versions are accepted per the USCIS forms page.

how long did it take at Juarez? Juarez is the only embassy in Mexico the deals with the K-1 visa, unfortunatley. I wish it could be done in Mexico City as my SO lives about 30 minutes outside of the city, but it's a no go. Sorry you have to travel North.

Juarez is it for Mexico, but they didn't know where your fiance lived before they built the consulate. I wonder, if he is worried about the violence there, so he will FLY from Cancun?

:goofy: Congratulations on your approval!! Im sorry to tell you but many people are in Juarez for the same reason. I met some people from veracruz, puerto vallarta, aguas calientes. and they all have to come to this consulate. they mainly stay in appartments or bed and breackfasts kind of places around the old consulate. they charge about 100 to 200 dlls a month, or you can pay on a week to week basis. One of the changes that have now taken place formerly known as the "pilot program" is that this particular consulate handles IV k-1 k-3 cases. Juarez has a completely different US embassy for locals. now known as OLD consulate. Thats where they take care of border crossing cards or Lasers and they have a visa call center and things like that. So basically you are surrounded by out of towners and local Jerks trying to sell you bottles of water for 2 dlls. But about the violence, your fiance wont have to stay here long. he should arrive a couple of days prior to his appointment for his med exam. I've been here for two and a half months and all thought the violence is getting to me.. psychologically mainly, I have yet to witness something violence. the best advice i can give is to stay indoors. I have my son with me. so I only go out really early in the morning for essentials. or maybe for a walk. i dont go out after dark. Edited by inwayovermyhead

Juarez is a Consulate, not an Embassies. The Embassy is in Mexico City. The "why" is of no real consequence but I suspect this arrangement allows the Consulate staff to reside in El Paso instead of Mexico. China is a lot bigger than Mexico and all family and immigrant visa applicants interview in Guangzhou, which is hardly centrally located. It would equate to all US applicants interviewing in Atlanta.

Just be careful and you will be fine!

My husband and I were in Juarez 1 month ago. Police were everywhere. Shootings had taken place 1 day before we arrived and more a week before wearrived...very close to the consulate. But after talking with a guard from our hotel, he explained they were all drug/gang related and if we traveled close to the hotel (he told us where was safe and what wasn't) we would be fine. And we were. We didn't go much farther than the hotel and consulate.

Not a legitimate argument at all. I'm sure if you had to send your loved one to the most violent city in the western hemisphere and possibly, the world for a week long stay, you would realize the anguish and worry that is involved and have a more compassionate comment. Although the travel is a nuisance, it's not the real problem involved with going to Juarez. With eight other consulates and the Embassy located in Mexico, it's ridiculous that the American government is still requiring all K visas to be issued at a consulate that's located in a lawless and war torn city.

Tglea,

I completely agree. I wish Juarez was a place where we could sit back have margaritas while our SOs are interviewing, but it is no where near that. I am honestly afraid to go to Juarez, but none of us have a choice. I am not trying to whine, but Juarez is a very scary city and nothing like the touristy parts of Mexico most people are familiar with.

Sherry,

I am going to pick a hotel very close to the consulate and try to stay in as much as I can. Most people on the Juarez forum who have already gone don't travel to far from the consulate. Just be cautious and don't stray far from the consulate area and you should be fine. Good Luck!!!!

Andrea

It's not an argument. It's a reply. Our opinions on CID are irrelevant. That's where the interview will be.
