Russian citizenship

Hi all,

Not many people would know the answer to this question, but I would try anyway. I am in process of renouncing my Russian citizenship for personal reasons, I am up to the point when I have a valid Russian passport and am ready to file to get it renounced. The russian embassy requires paperwork from Russia that says that I have no back taxes that I owe, but the embassy doesn't give you much information on how does one get this paper, since I doubt that russian tax ministry would actually mail me that paper at all. Does anyone have any experience, have heard or have done this process before? Would like to hear how you did it and how long it took you.

Thanks a lot!

Mike.

I would think that you would be able to get the paper from your local tax bureau. Do you family / friends that could inquire for you in Russia. I would suspect they would need copies of your internal and international passport. And MOST likely the tax records will show you owe them some money for something...

Pay the outstanding amount, get the receipt that it is paid, and you are all set.

Sounds like a bad deal to me.

Hi Mike,

I've recently got the same paper from my local tax inspectorate. In order to get it I wrote a "free-form" declaration asking the Chief of the such and such tax inspectorate to inform me about any debts, fees and penalties due to the federal and local budget. They should provide you with all the details necessary for paying these fees (so called kbk (codes of budget classification) Here they prepare it about 3-4 working days.

I hope it helps.

When you say from the local tax inspectorate, you mean from Russian tax department and they mailed it to you in US?
