People might be interested in tracing their own genetic deep heritage through the National Geographic Genographic Project. I did this a few years ago and determined my own haplotype and ancestral journey 'out of Africa'. It was well worth the money, and the information goes into the overal database and is regularly updated as more information is discovered.

I'm not aware of any connection between the Racist groups (of any race) and them having some fear of being connected genetically to what they would consider a lower form of man. Few people discount an evolutionary process.

Reminds me of this Black guy I worked with once who was convinced the First human was Black.

Why? Because God formed man from the "Dust of the earth" and as he explained to me....

"the Richest soil is dark, almost black".

Can't argue with that.

Skin melanin developed as an evolutionary response to varying environmental conditions- mainly- sun exposure.

It is very credible to think of our earlier hominid ancestors in Africa as being perhaps more covered in hair, than to be of any given 'race.'

As mental faculties increased, and we began seeking hedonic comforts in being more sedentary as a species, the fur started likely coming off due to hormone levels going down as well. Such is adaptive evolution on the microscale. Then the increasingly exposed skin likely had to cope with more sun exposure. Meaning that:

1. If we left Africa sooner, as I showed you previously, then race adaptations may have occurred by geography.

2. This being true, then your colleague was conceptually correct. Africa isn't exactly devoid of sun exposure and it wasn't all that different over the last 20 million years.
