Permenant Resident - Leaving the US

Hello,

I had a conditional permanent residency in the US, but about a year ago I moved back to Ireland. I recently received a letter from USCIS letting me know that my residency had been terminated (sent to my old address in Boston). I expected this (I left the country after all), but I'm concerned about being blocked from entering the US when I go on a holiday to CA next year.

Do I need to record my departure somehow? Or inform USCIS I have made a permanent move from the US?

Thanks for any help...

Chris

09/14/06 - Moved to Boston on K1 Visa

10/27/06 - Married in Boston!

02/14/07 - Email received: EAD Card production ordered

02/16/07 - Mailed application for Advance Parole to Chicago. Traveling 06/14. Could be close.

02/20/07 - EAD Card received! Time to start paying for my own drinks...

02/28/07 - Another touch on AOS.

02/28/07 - Another email saying my AOS case is pending at CSC. Hmmm.

I would think that since they've canceled your conditional permanent residency, they know now that you're not a "resident" and any further visiting would be fine. If you wanted to remain a resident, you had to apply for removal of conditions 90 days prior to your GC expiring. You didn't do so, so that's why they've said now you're residence has expired. I'm sure you can visit now without any problem. If you have the letter, you may want to just write back to that address and thank them for the letter and acknowledge that you are indeed not living in the U.S. anymore. I would suggest you bring that letter with you if you're traveling back to the U.S. But I don't know that it will cause you any problems.

You won't be blocked but I believe (not 100% sure) that once you had a greencard/ immigration visa, you won;t ever be able to sue the VWP anymore, and will need to apply for a tourist visa to visit the USA.
