Visit US without activating K1 Visa?

I am sure this question has been asked before, but I couldn't find it.

Is it possible to visit the US without activating the K1 Visa (after it's been issued but before you are ready to start the 90 days)?

Technically, no. You're not allowed. This question has been posed at some peoples interviews, and the interviewer says no, they can delay issuing the Visa but it's not allowed. Once you have the K-1 and cross the border, it has to be activated. Saying that, a few others have tried to go across with it and not activate it and it's entirely up to the BG. They can let you in or deny you, or make you activate it. Personally, I wouldn't chance it (being turned away). I waited 4.5 months to move so my SO came to visit me in Canada a few times before I moved

You can visit the US without activating the visa, just tell the immigration officer you are visiting and do not want to activate the visa.

I asked this at my interview and the interviewer told me that no it was not possible.

Like Jill said, it would be up to the discretion of the border guard. I personally didn't risk it. Got my visa in March and didn't leave the country until June. Sucked, but wasn't worth the risk for me since I had a job I had to go back to.

Sure, you can say that to the IO. But it's up to the IO to let you in or not, and then you'd have a wasted flight (if you're flying) and they choose not to let you in
