I arrived in Manila on the 13th of last month where Merlaine met me. We stayed the night and met her brothers who live there and flew on to Tacloban the next morning. Turns out I didn't need as much advise as I thought I did :D Things could not have been better since I got here and tomorrow, September 10th, will be our wedding in Palo, Leyte!! We're both very excited and have spent the past month running down all the necessary paper work. I'll post up more info on what was required here and what we've gone through to get to this point after I get home on the 15th.

Thanks so much to all the VJ family for the great advise and help!!

Congradulations.

You will need to get an NSO stamped marriage certificate to file the I-130. NSO = National Statistics Office. Average time for NSO to issue it is 2+ months. You might want to try to expedite the process. In addition you will need your spouses NSO birth certificate. Best Wishes

wow that was so fast from first meeting online and then getting married...i hope you go to the real process of getting married there in pi so you wont have problems in the interview...

and about the nso marriage certificate...its not 2+ months...after the civil registrar send your marrige certificate thru electronic endorsement to nso...you can have nso copy of your marriage license in just 15 working days.

Yes, we're doing it all the right way. We've already got a huge packet of forms and documents that all the entities here required. We took a trip to Cebu on the Super Cat and stayed a day there to get my permit to marry from the embassy there. We'll be married in a civil wedding tomorrow. I'm not baptized a Catholic and even if I were, there are way too many requirements here and I don't have the 2+ months that it would take to meet them all. I'm planning to get back at some point during the process and hopefully we can have her church wedding then.

we waited 10 days to get married, abby n sheryl

Our time line for CR1 visa took only 5 months and 1 week or 156 days; from the filing the I-130 on the 03-12-2009 to Approval of NOA2 on the 05/13/2009, then Interview on the 08/18/2009 at Manila, Philippines. We had a daughter on the 11-12-2010 named AISHA JOY means HAPPY LIFE.a1_opt-1.jpga2_opt-1.jpga3_opt-1.jpg

Yes, but Kevin mentioned he arrived on August 13th. which is plenty of time for the ten working day wait.

Congratulations Kevin and Merlaine. By the time you read this you will be married. Also, you can use a certified copy of the local civil registry marriage license to send with the I-130. The NSO marriage certificate is not needed until the interview.
