I don't think if you sleep with a stripper or prostitute gets you on the SO registry.... yes you'll get arrested but being on the SO registry means one of you was a victim, unwilling to participate in the sex act. Sleeping with a prostitute, both parties are willing and able

Yes, like Sly Wolf says, there are ways to get on the registry without having an unwilling participant. There are a few posts over in OT where the members know people who are on it for relieving themselves in the parking lot after a night at the club.

I really think that part of the law should be changed. It gives people a false sense of the "true sex offenders" in their areas, but more importantly individuals are getting labelled in a very bad way which is not right at all. I assume this happens less in Canada since I beleive the age of consent is 14.

I see, I see. I just don't think you can compare the actions of a stripper to that of a pedophile or rapist, that's all.

Exactly the problem with the SO registry. You click on the map showing all the offenders in your area and they not only include the pedophiles, but also:

"In much of the United States, public urination, mooning, streaking, and the failure to prevent one's own teenage children from engaging in otherwise consensual sexual activity also result being designated as a sex offender."

I am not offended by your comments, Carla. I think people don't realize that people are ending up on that list that shouldn't. Personally, I would like to see a list of burglars and murderers, et al, who live in my area.

personally, i'd rather see a list of strippers who live in my area :P

The list that I saw, actually lists what the person has been convicted of. I.E. Rape, possession of child pornography, etc. I never saw anyone on the list that urinated in public or mooned out a vehicle, and if so I do agree they shouldn't be on the list. However the original debate was not about who should be on the list, but whether my/our comments were warranted towards pedophiles and rapists and that they should be given sympathy or not be judged, I don't take back my comments about that and I have zero respect for a child rapist

I wasn't offended, I just don't share your empathy for sex offenders. As useful as a sex offender database is, I sincerely hope that people don't use this for more than what it really is. Just because one isn't listed in your neighborhood doesn't mean that it can't happen. I have never looked at those lists as I believe they should be illegal and to quote Charles, it is a "slippery slope". I would maintain the same level of awareness to my surroundings with or without knowing what people in my neighborhood have been convicted of.

You shouldn't have to be sorry for what you believe in. *shrug*

Just my two cents.

Heh. The system can be such a joke. Example:

Child is molested by mother's boyfriend. Child reports said act to grandmother who then reports it to the police. Mother never once believes child, though there is evidence of the act.

Case gets thrown out of court because mother refuses to let child testify.

i find the lists interesting - none within about 8 miles of me, they are primarily centered in downtown leavenworth. i'd have to hunt around for the website that does show a map of people convicted of a felony though - if anyone is interested in that.

Oh and you find it funny we want to learn more about strippers.

I find it funny that just a couple of weeks ago you were telling Amanda that she is the meanest person you know yet can justify the actions of a pervert.

Sorry but that just bothers me.

I believe what Carla was saying (and please correct me if i'm wrong Carla) is that we seem to be so open minded about hearing information about a profession in the sex industry - which is kind of a hot topic and yet when Carla tries to give us information based on her experience, people get all up in arms. I didn't see Carla's post as anything more than sharing information with us gleaned from a wealth of experience. Now some people may not be interested in hearing about sex offenders, or strippers for that matter and that is their perogative - but it would be good to separate the emotion from the information maybe.

I guess I see that - instead of asking questions and trying to see what Carla can see - people get up in arms and just say nooooo sex offenders are bad, lock up the kids!

Now i'm not saying that sex offenders are pillars of society, but what I am saying is that the gut reaction seems to have made some people overlook what was really being said. Just my opinion.

Anddddd sprailenesssss - Carla offered Amanda an olive branch and and Amanda accepted it - why are you bringing that up?

Which is absurd. Also, I know that there have been court cases in the last 10 years where the legal age of consent is 16...and a 16 and 17 year old had sex...and for some reason the parents go ape and accuse the 17 year old of rape...and then he is a registered SO. That, to me, is so horrible.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard
