Well, I've been to Tallahasee, Gainesville, Pensacola, and Milton many many times. In each and every time i've been there, i had to stop counting the number of pick up trucks with confederate flags mounted in the bed. I lived in S.C. for 4 years and never saw the volume that I did in those cities in N. Florida.

Edit: Charles stfu and go clean your guns or something :P

And being proud of your heritage is being backward?

Hell, my family is one of the founding families of Florida - I'm damn proud to be from the South.

Edit: And by the by, those are 'big' cities compared to where my family lives. You haven't seen anything if you haven't been to small town North Florida.

I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.

Don't you live in N. Florida Krikit? If so, I can understand the meth and violence part. That is afterall one of the most backwards, redneck areas of this country. I have devised an equation to tell how bad your neighborhood is.

I live in Central Florida. In a very affluent neighbourhood. I was referring to criminal activity within the area. Not next door!

Being proud of your heritage is one thing.... mounting a confederate flag is another.

I have been to small towns there. Scanlon, FL. Was rather small, I dont' know if it fits your definition of small. Nice enough small town, but the same things there. My univ. gf my freshman year was from there and we'd go down there 1-2 times per month for the weekend.

Sucks for you, I can clean my shotguns here at work if I want. I would just need to check in at the front desk and go downstairs to the facility.

My doors are locked here in the USA day and night.

Coming from Pictou County Nova Scotia where you never had to lock your doors is a big change. Also you never heard gun shots at home like you do here in the USA.

Only time you would see a weapon was during deer season in November and that was a rifle.

I hate guns

What is that? That my employer trusts me around firearms more than yours does?

I haven't moved to the US yet, but we're in the process and I've visited many times. My fiance is from Utah (SLC) and I definitely feel safer in Utah than I do in Canada (Edmonton ... which is slowly but surely becoming Canada's crime capital :P). However ... I've visited other parts of the US and (Louisiana, Texas, and California specifically come to mind) and I definitely felt safer in Edmonton than I did there ... so, in conclusion, I think it really depends on where you live!

Totally agree about comparing Louisiana to Edmonton. LOL

I grew up in Sherwood Park and my mom said they have only just started locking the doors. Actually they just got new doors and they have the keypads. I'm serious- growing up none of us had a house key nor did we lock the doors. Plus they never knew when me or my sister would come stumbling home so doors weren't locked at night either.

no, i was thinking maybe about tying it in to your earlier stereotype :D

:secret: on a federal installation, only certain jobs have guns.....like security.

I mentioned this thread to my husband and he brought up a good point. Within a 70 mile radius we have an air force academy, 3 air force bases, an army base and NAFTA. It better be safe here!

Interestingly enough, I have yet to see a gun down here.

Here's my two bits: I've lived in canada most of my life, small towns, victoria bc, edmonton ab, and vancouver bc. I'm living in phoenix az now(west valley) and it seems to me that a city is a city and people are people. Crime is a worldwide problem. If you think you're more safe wandering through edmonton ab or vancouver bc than you are phoenix az, your wrong. Personally, I don't think any city is actually "safe". I will say that the higher population in the US obviously equates to higher crime. So far our experience with phoenix has been fantastic, tons of friendly people, and if you're willing to step out of your 'cultural' comfort zone (by that I mean actually taking a sincere interest in people from other countries and cultures) than you are guaranteed to meet some wonderful people-that goes for any city, anywhere, including the US and Canada.

PS: I grew up in a small town in british columbia(5000 people) and we always locked our doors.

US born, Canadian raised, Irish Blood.
