I am curious as to whether anyone has had similar issues with Tokyo. The interview with my fiancee was on the 31st of August, and they said everything went great and congratulations. They did not ask for proof of our relationship, they had our proof from the initial submission. We had a lot to give but they did not ask for any. They said congratulations on the Visa and said to expect the Visa in a week or so. Well my fiancee called yesterday and they said she would receive an email within 3 days with more information as to why it has been delayed. She received an email the same day (today) and all it said is that they are still inspecting the Visa. I am curious if inspecting means their is a problem or just delayed due to some other issues.

I worry, if they want more proof even though they did not ask for any will they mail us with a RFE? Is there much a chance of denial after their approval at the end of the interview? I am just nervous. Any feedback is appreciated.

Specifically, it says..

お問合せありがとうございます。

あなたのビザ申請は現在審査中です。当事務所での手続きが終了次第ご用意いただいたExPackでパスポートを返却致しますのでお待ちくださるようお願い致します。

ご理解の程よろしくお願い致します。

When I translated it I got roughly..

Thank you for inquiry.

Your visa application is currently being reviewed. We will send your information to you via ExPack upon completion of the procedures available at our office.

Thank you enough for your understanding.

My situation is not exactly the same, but similar enough to cause me to worry too. Let me know if you have any updates and how long this process takes.

My fiance interviewed today and he was told that they can't tell us whether or not his visa was approved until they 'check in the computer' and that they think it should be okay and will mail his passport back within a week. Somehow I can foresee myself e-mailing the Tokyo embassy a week from now and getting a response similar to the one that you got...

I do know from experience that the Tokyo embassy may sit on your application unless you harass them (even though it costs $20 per harassing e-mail). Good job on making them send an e-mail inquiry for you, calling does nothing unless the call center person enters an inquiry for you. I'm pretty sure the call center is not even in the embassy. We've both called multiple times and always get the same person who speaks poor Japanese AND poor English and is absolutely unhelpful. Next time you can directly e-mail them from their website, the e-mails seem to get things moving. I wouldn't be surprised if they just happened, by complete chance of course, to complete their investigation the same day or the day after you made your inquiry. That's what happened with our case when they wouldn't send our packet 4.

Oh, and I e-mailed them in English. I don't know if that affected the outcome at all, but you really never know.

My interviewer said exactly same thing to me. It sounded their system is sometimes goofy so your visa cannot be approved right away.

Luckily mine was approved a minute later, but I imagine issuance of visa can be delayed because of the technical problems.
