Obama's Political Speech to Brainwash Our Kids

I don't see anything wrong or partisan about the speech at all. I think we're at the point where a certain percentage of people will criticize Obama for anything he does. Bush sucked as a President but if he gave a similar speech I wouldn't have had a problem with it. Separate the message from the messenger.

I don't think you need to have kids to appreciate a motivational speech. I don't see anything more to it than that, and there certainly isn't anything cynically political about the content of it.

In which case - you have NO RIGHT to speak about the accountability of our President or our Nation towards childrens.

Just what I thought was coming. Back and forth back and forth, then all of a sudden "welll... welll... well... maybe you don't have kids so that makes you wrong!"

No, there are plenty of people with Children in government run schools who are against this speech. Many that will be keeping their kids out of school during.

I never said I didn't know whether I have kids in public school or not. I know full well whether I do or don't, but you'll never know about it.

I have relatives IN public school, highschool age.. So does that mean they also can't have an opinion on the matter because they aren't the parent? This line of thinking is ridiculous. But libs are pros at copouts so that they don't have to address an issue.

"Mommy, I heard a great speech from the president! It makes me want to be president too! Mommy, what party is that GREAT man from?"

"He's a democrat"

"Wow, mommy, democrats are the greatest people on earth! I want to be just like them!"

Do you have children? It's been ages since I've heard a little kid say they wanted to be President. But they do sometimes. They'd never ask what party they were though, children don't really know or understand the republican vs democratic stand points. Especially since they (the parties) have their extremists and then the loosy gooseys in the middle that pick and choose which things they like from both parties. (it makes it difficult for a nice and easy definition).

Either way, I'd rather my daughter want to be the President, than a pregnant teen drop out trying to become famous by being a reality tv star. Maybe I just have high expectations for my children, but I want them to succeed in life and have dreams that will take them as high as they can go.

"Really great people make you feel that you, too, can become great." - Mark Twain

Whether Obama has the answers. Whether he can fix the state of the economy or healthcare - I don't know. But, I do know that he is this nation's first black President and in a country with continued racism and discrimination, it was quite a great feat to achieve that position. I have to give kudos where kudos are due.

didn't you forget to use the correct descriptive/ divisive wording ... african american

Yeah you're right. As for me, I won't use that term until I'm referred to as a european-american.

What is wrong with the phrase 'african american'?

Am I missing something here?

It seems you are missing the point that a Summer's Eve-American here is trying feebly to make......

I never said you were wrong. My comments about you possibly having a child or not was simply in how much validation I might put in your opinion. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and if we are just talking about motivational or inspirational speeches in general, well, some people will like them and some won't. Some people may feel moved, some may even cry, others may raise an eyebrow and snort in scorn. To each his own. I mean, I'm not gay or lesbian, but I still have opinions about their rights to marry, etc. I do not claim that someone must experience the same circumstances to share a valuable opinion. But, in this discussion of this particular speech and discussing whether it is propaganda or flooding of socialism, and everything else... you are very vocal. Sometimes knowing a little about a person or their experience helps decide if you want to listen to them or not. So far, I'm not impressed, that's my opinion and I don't have to use hasty generalizations to voice it.

Now then, Teenagers are a different realm from small children.

Teenagers are able to make choices. Teenagers have started learning more of life's lessons. Teenagers are close to being voters, workers, parents, military enlistees... I don't think we can compare them to elementary school children. Because I have elementary and middle school aged children, that is the perspective that I am coming from. Others will come from differing view points.

I know "people" that are in government with children and without. I know and have "family" in high school as well. They aren't here right now to add their opinion to the discussion. Only I am. As are only you. Why should it matter what the people you know are doing?

If you are going to debate. Keep it on point to the original topic... is this specific speech brainwashing, propaganda, socialism, etc. Some say yes, others say no. So, what do you say it is and why?

Rambling pontification just becomes a bore.

As long as he stuck to education - I have no problem with it. ( i'm not a lib, btw...i'm not an anything but a parent).

--Kind of O/T I do have a problem with the 'honarary degrees' awarded here, there and everywhere though, all of them, not just the presidential ones.

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

Thank you, God bless you, and God bless America.

Coming from his mouth, I have a hard time believing he really meant that.

Does that make you cringe Nagi?

Nice summary for this thread with the exception of those who actually took direct quotes from Obama's speech and made comments on it.

So from last night... I can detect more whining in this thread...

I read the speech. I think it's very inspiring. It doesn't throw a democratic or republican spin on the children. It's not a plea to support healthcare reform. A propaganda to support his movements... nothing like that.

I find it very inspiring and heartfelt. It's a sad state when our society sees so many of its young pregnant, school drop outs, living off of welfare, etc. Who do our children have as role models? Lindsay Lohan? Sports stars? Rock stars?

I find it refreshing to see someone such as the president take the time to address children directly, and address them on matters that actually impact them and that they think about.

I may not agree with some of his recent methods or where the healthcare reform is standing... but I applaud and fully support this statement. If my daughter's class doesn't show it today, then I'm going to show it to her when she gets home today. She is mature enough to understand the message. She is right at the stage when school will get tougher for her, when hormones will start kicking "common sense" out her ears, and a message such as this I think will be beneficial to her.

Our President is the figureheard and inspiration of our country. We elect them. Then we either support them or complain about them, as we have done for years and years. But, that doesn't negate the fact that the President is an impressive figure and should inspire our future generations.

Well said.

Thanks Joe. You just answered my question.

You're just another deadbeat Dad with plenty of opinions about societal rights and wrongs.

If you won't even take care of your own, you've no credibility in my book.

So its unprecented (is this the root of your criticism?) - where's the harm in it?

So more kids are kids are going to hear it, so what?

Its a speech - people will take from it what they want (or not). There isn't really a lot else to say really...

Pretty soon (before they move on to idiotically criticizing how Obama walks as The Socialist Stride) they'll be linguistically breaking down the speech to search for hidden Socialist messages.

I dunno Dave, I don't think we really need a blow by blow breakdown of every paragraph.

Its a bloody speech, take it or leave it.

Just don't try to pretend that its any more than it is.
