I am more curious, whether most folks would go along with whatever programs the authorities implement at first, or whether enough people would take advantage of the situation, that whatever "civilization" there was before the collapse would deteriorate into widespread looting and civil disobedience.

I have some insight into what the OES and other planners have in store for dealing with a major catastrophe, say an 8.0 earthquake along the southern San Adreas fault near Los Angeles. But, I wonder what others expect to happen, and how they expect to conduct themselves, and deal with the situation.

A good site about dealing with disasters. The blame bush crowd won't like it but who cares.

Florida currently has more concealed-carry permit holders than any other state, with 1,269,021 issued as of May 14, 2014

The liberal elite ... know that the people simply cannot be trusted; that they are incapable of just and fair self-government; that left to their own devices, their society will be racist, sexist, homophobic, and inequitable -- and the liberal elite know how to fix things. They are going to help us live the good and just life, even if they have to lie to us and force us to do it. And they detest those who stand in their way."

A good link.

Local governments are best equipped to deal with local issues, but become easily overwhelmed in a disaster situation. States are best able to supplement and coordinate mutual aid for localized disasters. When state resources become overwhelmed, then it's the other states that provide additional resources. FEMA has always been long on promises, and incompentent on the delivery, if they ever come through at all. Enough local governments have been burned by FEMA in my former AO, that they don't even ask for help anymore. Every shady contractor comes out looking for that FEMA money, and nobody gets paid but the local government gets stuck with all the bills.

They were no real surprises in Katrina, at least for those that have been through a few of these events.

I'm ready. I have several sheets for my roof with the following message.

"OBAMA, PLEASE HELP! WE NEED FOOD AND WATER!"

No worries here.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

The Rapture will have occurred by then, so I'll be safely in Heaven.

Ah yes.... escaping the theoretical with the mythological.

Luckily, neither will ever happen.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.
