As Unemployment hits a 26 yr high and Tenn unemployment is the highest since records have been kept, I'm wondering if it has effected anyone here... have family member or friends taken a hit?

Without going into great detail, I will say my work has been hit very hard which leaves me with way to much time to screw around on VJ

I was thinking of this myself, has anyone here been affected by this?

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

We recently moved to a new city. It's taking a long time for my husband to find work. It's rough out there, and the prices of everything never seem to go down.

I think we all know someone who has been affected by this. Most business owners are doing less business now than they were a year or two ago. Bidding jobs has become cuthroat. The strong are getting by, with less profits and narrower margins than before. I know someone who took early retirement and several who have been laid off from long term, well paying jobs due to cutbacks.

You're joking, $8 an hour.. Man, the rich have come out again on top through this.

Matt85 talks about cycles yet the only cycle I see is that the even during a recession, the wealthy get wealthier. During the boom years they just get even more rich.

There you go bud, I always knew you could post something sensible for a change.

yeah man.. fvckin companies, even the big ones, lowered their salaries, so.. it just keeps the cycle going on and on, people who got unemployment don't wanna apply for those jobs, because they make more money out of their unemp checks than working that crappy paid job, and getting another one, that's no freakin life

I think the wealthy who are savy can make money anytime. Now would be a fantastic time to gobble up millions in real estate while the prices and interests rates are down and sit on it for a few years until things come back. I know people who are doing that on a small scale and others who have serious money to play with.

It has an effect on everyone. Those that lost their jobs are affected and those that didn't will, more often than not, find themselves working more. I know that our hiring stop that started back in August 2008 hasn't done our office any favors. We had about 10% attrition since and the workload really is the same. As a result, we have people picking up overtime again. Nice for those non-exempt but if you're an officer then it's not that great. Still better than job, though.
