China's national flag to go up in White House on Sept 20

The national flag of the People's Republic of China (PRC) will be hoisted at the South Lawn of the White House in Washington on September 20, media reported Sunday.

Chinese associations in the United States had applied to hold a ceremony in front of the US President's residence to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of PRC.

Chen Ronghua, chairman of Fujian Association of the United States, told reporters that their application was approved not only because of the sound Sino-US relations but also because China is a responsible country.

"Many Americans admire China due to the success of last year's Beijing Olympics," said Chen.

More than 1,000 people will attend the ceremony and the performances held after it, according to Zhao Luqun, who will direct the performances.

Zhao said the performances will demonstrate the friendship, magnanimous spirit and kindness of modern Chinese people.

like all the bullshite propaganda in china, it's bunk. nobody admires china for anythign other than the pretty girls.

ironic that chinese call october 1st "liberation day" in recognition of the date on which mao formally took control of the mainland. i am sure the 50 million people (yes, that's 50 million) he sanctioned the execution of over the next 23 years and the tens of millions who were released from jail without execution would disagree, if they still had tounges and fingers with which to speak or write.

yes, folks, mao gets the award. he was personally responsible for the detainment and execution of more human beings than all other 20th century despots combined. why did he order and sanction such atrocities? because these people didn't agree with his vision for china. did he organise a centralised economy that brougnt and agrarian society of impoverishment into the industrial age with the power generated by the execution of enough people to populate a mid sized european country?

20-25% of chinese now live in urban environments in a functional industrial economy. 95% of them do not have a car or an apartment with hot water or more than 600 square feet living space for a family of 3. the other 75-80% of the country is still living in unmechanised agriculture similar to what America experienced approximately 120 years ago. i have seen it all firsthand.

Interesting how the title of the topic had nothing to do with the contents of the post though . . . must be a creative writing assignment for the National Enquirer.

So, you think it is only an remarkable coincidence, nothing more? :P

Aha, so the posters of such threads here do double as writers for National Enquirer! I knew it! Hmm, must have been the "alien' attraction that drew them here :D .

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

You can go to many parts of the US and say the same thing about the US. I have seen sections of the US that look like a scene straight out of a war torn 3rd world country. Biggest difference between China and the US is that China is growing and building up momentum. They also have the benefit of not having to learn everything from scratch as the US did. They just learn and hire other professionals from abroad. It's not going to take China 100 years to build up like it did the US. A large portion of US factories alone are over there, therefore, it's not that hard for them to learn from US manufacturers, quick-smart, and apply the knowledge themselves. Boeing is considering moving their entire research team to China.

What you see as lack of progress, I see as opportunity and potential for growth. The Chinese are working hard to build up their country. They don't have the issues that America has where some people absolutely refuse to invest in their country, let alone its infrastructure. Whereas, many here are more concerned about how the Steelers are doing this season. Their colleges are producing engineers, while those here are producing NFL players. The other difference is that the Chinese are hungry to build up and improve. Whereas, Americans have become complacent. Heck Americans are fighting whether Obama's speech should be shown in schools. I have a few friends working on billion dollar infrastructure projects in China and they have nothing but praise. And these guys are all die-hard right wing conservatives; well the international version of a conservative.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

To those companies that outsourced our manufacturing jobs to China... do you really believe your intellectual

property (or, indeed, actual physical property) is safe? When the US defaults on its national debt, what do

you think China will do? They will nationalize all those factories that American capitalists built over there.

In fact, I hope they do just to f#ck over the traitors in this country that shipped our manufacturing base overseas.

This is exactly what Matt's anything goes free-market ideology supports. That is, exporting any form of labor to lower cost markets. A system where it's all about the bottom line. Regardless of the national or long-term cost to the nation.

I know. Matt and I differ on this point.

The way we are heading almost any job can be outsourced. So while executives decide they can save a few buck by exporting jobs, it's the rest of the country that is suffering. As you said, if China nationalizes these factories and companies over there, we are screwed. If that happens, every executive responsible for that should be trialed for treason. I mean China has countless spies and there are countless espionage cases here in the US. Can you imagine, as we speak, what is going on in those offices and factories over there? We will be the first country in history that literally handed over our power, all in the name of profit.
