WOW... lots of people outside the US and here in the US must be laughing their noses off at the incredible number of idiots making much ado about nothing.

The President's address is no big deal. . .

If presidential addresses to children were more commonplace and uplifting and as driving forces to make themselves more productive and critically thinking members of society... I really wish they would have been employed more regularly in the past... like back in the day the 'parents' making all this fuss now were in school.

. . .but somehow it will inspire the masses.

Clinton didn't a give a formal school speech at all so didn't get much inspiration or critical thinking through the 90s? The last part sounded like a call to the glory days of school bussing fights.

Lets help you out some more.

Usually... 'if' is a figure of speech that implies something too. The writing is right there. I think you're having issues with your reading Dave.

Regarding your interpretation of words... well... if you miss the context then not much can be expected of you.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Your statement implies a positive causality. If more speeches took place, education would somehow improve. If you didn't really believe that you wouldn't have said it. But if you did mean it . . .arggh. . .reminds of the old Star Trek episodes where the computers or robots shuts down due to the illogic of the argument.

I even gave the counter Clinton example but to no avail. Critical thinking is just too much of a hassle. Let's just say anything and then argue semantics later. That's kind of a pattern here.

Try again (you're using that spy machine again).

Semantics?

Dave- the writing is clear. If you can't understand it... then that's your problem. And THAT is a pattern here as much as arguing over semantics.

the original poster asked a question that none of you have answered....."is it because he is coloured???" I'm used to the two faced racists of UK, but I didnt really expect that over here ( I mean the two faced part). One thing I thought about Americans is that they were blunt and straightforward. I like that about Americans. Well this sure is a learning process.

Even if you think its based on disagreements about ideology, you have to be aware of the fact that some of the furore is racially motivated. Whatever happened to the respect of the Presidential office, no matter what party he belongs to????

i wish some of these people ( meaning those within the GOP and the media, and others like them) trying to use scare tactics, playing on peoples ignorance would really be upfront....... lol call a spade a spade......

.

i had to repost , it wouldnt allow me to edit the original post.

It's hard to say. There's certainly an element of it with a lot of White Supremists' Groups that have become more vocal and active, but I remember there was a lot of hatred coming from the Right Wingers when Clinton was elected. It's really more about the Far Right who have a stranglehold on the Republican Party. Instead of showing a little humility for running this country into the ground after 8 years of being in control, they've been foaming at the mouth since Obama was sworn into office. Hell, many of them even debated that Obama wasn't really President because he wasn't sworn in properly. If you look at the series of issues that they brought up against Obama in just his first 6 months of office, you can see the desperation and pathetic sore loser attitude that the Far Right have. They weren't wrong...they didn't make any mistakes...they deserve a second chance and they want that chance NOW.

Just wait, in a couple of weeks, they'll move on to their next issue they have with Obama. Even though they scream loudest, they are in the minority....so try not to let their intimidation convince you that this country is as divided as they hope and pretend it to be.

oh yeah the "Birthers" . a recent Times article called them an intellectually scary people.

I hope you are right, about them being a small minority. I'm used to right wingers, but this is hinging on the uber ridiculous. it amazes me that these same Americans do not realise the unbelievable damage that Bush did to America internationally as a whole, how he was ( and subsequently Americans) despised as a fool dragging whatever kudos The Republic had down with him globally. There should be a collective sigh of relief,no matter what party you assign your loyalties to, that the village idiot has left the building.

Obama inherited a pile of doo doo, that will take a long time to clear up, and all they can do is whine, moan and bi tch, especially when he tries to make good on his election promises ( healthcare) . I like informed debate about the issues, not this knee jerk ( emphasis on the jerk) reaction, that is largely uninformed. I mean look at the speech debacle: he tells them to work hard, and wash their hands : yeah he's the son of Goebbels alright, hang him. oops sorry does that sound too much like lynching rhetoric? I mean "get him"!! I'm all for criticism but do it with enough of the facts to give somewhat of an informed opinion.

I think this is an intellectually scary time! Period!
