Obama is the President for all Americans. If the President wants to speak to children in school, why should this be a negative act as stated by the republicans... If you check history, several republican leaders over the years, did this very thing that they are now fighting. It is so ridiculos that they are attempting to block or stain his speech, why? is it because he is "Colored".

This topic is probably OT, but I will add my two pennies before it gets moved.

For full disclosure, I am about as leftist as you can get here in the states, so take my opinion for what it's worth. Nonetheless, when I was going to elementary school in Tennessee in the seventies, the righties forced us to watch state executions on TV. So, I think they can bear to have their kids be told to study hard, stay in school and not to take drugs. I don't think that message will scar them too much. But, I admit, I don't understand righties much. They tend to baffle me.

No one is "colored" anymore as that phrase hasn't been fashionable in years.

I think part of opposition to Obama's speech to kids comes from differing sources. He's overexposed and his popularity is waning. A lot of people are just tired of him being everywhere and achieving very little with the economy. The Obama Adminstration already dropped the part where kids will explain how they help Obama so they changed it to how kids will met their educational goals. There was also the "I pledge" video that some have seen that is somewhat political and has a cult of personality flavor to Obama in it.

Liberals have fought most attempts at educational reform because of the teacher unions so it's unlikely Obama will do much to change the flailing schools beyond giving. . . you guessed it. . . another speech.
