Does anyone know what exact vaccinations are needed

(1) by the time of my medical for the K1 Visa? - and

(2) by the time we file for AOS after we marry?

I'm female and will be 26 years of age at the time of my K1 interview and 27 by the time we get married. I've already had the MMR when I was a baby. Does anyone know if you are able to obtain a record of vaccinations like this from your doctor to avoid having them done again at the medical?

I can't find this information anywhere.. If anyone can help I'd be really grateful

Officially there are no K-1 vaccination requirements but only for AOS... I believe however, London is one of those consulates that require the AOS vaccinations to be complete before the visa will be issued.

YMMV

Ok thanks. Do you know what they are?

You don't have to complete vaccinations to get a K1 visa in London. BUT if you can take care of it all in the UK and get everything documented at the medical in London, your AOS filing will have one less headache. Many women wait to get the HPV in the US because it's expensive and NHS won't give it free. It's expensive in the US too. The short version of getting things done over there: You will be given a vaccination worksheet signed by the visa medical physician. You can mail that in with your AOS. Done. Or~~~

If you don't complete vaccinations, then you get them in the US and must have a civil surgeon fill in the vaccination section of an I693 document. Civil surgeons are often misinformed and want to do the whole medical over for several hundred dollars. Many refuse to do only the immunization section. It's extremely rare to find one who will do it for less than $50-100. The cheapest/easiest is by mail to a CS in Texas who does it for $35. But all of that takes some weeks to arrange so you're delaying filing and delaying getting authorized to work.

And this is the list of immunizations required for AOS straight from the CDC who makes up the rules. There's a chart on p. 2 and tons of specific information if you take the time to read all the fine print details in the footnotes. It's a long list of shots, but if you pay attention to the ages, then you will realize most are for babies or children and are not required of adults.

Edit: Just another tip. When you get the NHS nurse to write up your list of immunizations, if you've had chickenpox and they have a record or you have some scars to show, ask her to write that up on your list. My husband told his nurse that his Mum said he had chickenpox in 19xx and she took his word for it. Results= no varicella shot needed.

Amen, and amen. Omigod, we are going through some drama with the Varicella shot, so spare yourself the trouble (and the money) and get your immunizations and history sorted before you leave the UK!!! Get all the shots you can, and either mention the varicella history, or get a blood titre test to confirm varicella antibodies so you can have that on your record. Once you get to the U.S., you'll have enough to do with all the other forms, etc., and shots are expensive!!

I'd defiantly wait if you can. When you turn 27 you get out of Gardasil, which is almost 500 dollars for all 3 shots pretty much anywhere.

That would work if you're going to turn 27 within 90 days of entering the US. You only have to get the first shot of a series if you file AOS before the time for the second dose is due. Like if there's a waiting period between a set of 3 shots. You don't have to wait for all three to be given. You get the first documented on your form (in UK or by a Civil Surgeon in US), you file for AOS and the rest of the series are up to you to finish out on your own or don't finish as the case may be.

I agree with Cammie, there is alot of drama and stress over Civil Surgeons if you read the AOS threads. It's dreadful and I've seriously considered taking it up with my Congressman Ron Paul, who is a medical doctor and might be interested in the high prices and mis-information they give K1s. There is some reform needed in that area and it would be great for a Congressman to take it up as a cause. You read posts all the time saying "I've called 10 Civil Surgeons in my area and none will do the immunization section for me without doing the whole medical over for $350." K1s do not have to repeat the medical exam if the one you get at Knightsbridge is less than one year old when you submit AOS.
