Hi Guys!

Sorry I've been AWOL so long - much love to ALL of you and I hope you're all doing extremely well!

Been setting up house with my Ben, getting used to finally being ALONE...Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! And basically we're going to buy a house, and have found a mortgage broker who is working with us to obtain a mortgage through ME, from a company dealing with immigrant/no credit mortgages. Much better than getting it through Ben, because his credit isn't exactly peachy right now - though, it's getting better. Thus we have an interest rate of 7.63%, which is pretty groovy really, and since we're in Minnesota, there's a soft payment penalty if we re-finance within two years, amounting to about two months interest at the max. thank goodness we're not in LA! Nice mortgage lady likes a challenge - this will be her first person from Britain, specifically!

So that's all lovely (can you tell I had a meeting with mortgage lady - like, erm, the 6th between us, poor woman - two hours ago?) but here's a hitch - I have P60s from 2004-2005, but the ones from 2003-2004 are lying in a box somewhere in the North of England. Not good, as they need some kind of income verification from the whole of the year 2004 - and as us Brits know, the fiscal year runs from May-April over there, and Jan-December over here...so some weird overlapping is occurring and I need the records from Jan-April 2004.

Loving me yet?

Okay, so I've emailed the Inland Revenue, or whatever they are nowadays, plus Devon.gov just now, but does anyone else know of anywhere I could go to get some record, a copy of the P60...or something? I wondered if anyone else has been through something like this?

If not, no worries :)

Hi JayJay

Was wondering how you were doing.... I spoke to my son who works for Inland revenue... he said yes you can get copies of your P60 and you should contact your employer for the year you want as they should have a copy... if not then the Tax office that was dealing with your Tax at that time... failing that you can contact the overseas branch and they should be able to track your P60 from your NINO.

Hope this helps

The CNR dept at Inland revenue (phone and email on the IR website) are EXCELLENT and really helpful for all Brit non-residents.

In fact every time I've called the IR they've been on the ball with info and helpfulness (is that a word? ) - so they ought to be able to help you out if you get nowhere with the ex-employer.

Congrats on the house purchase!

1. Old employer if they have a friendly wage dept would certainly have your P60 on file (if it isnt archived in an unaccessible place lol) by law they have to keep em for several years.

2. Critical info when tracking old tax records is knowing your employers Tax office reference if you were in same employment it will be on latest P60 if not you would certainly be able to get this from wage dept as it rarely if ever changes for a firm. The mistake can be to assume that because you work in town A you are covered by that tax office as firms often use the tax office of their headquarters.

3. Failing all else would the mortgage firm take copies of your wages going by DD into your bank account as often it is easier/quicker to get old bank records than tax records - just a thought

probably all useless info but just some random thoughts from an old UK P60 producer lol good luck!!
