We got married in Egypt also, so I didn't change my name yet. We are going to wait until my husband gets here and then have a ceremony here so all my family can attend. That way we will have a certificate here to use for my name change here in the U.S. Since you had to show the actual marriage certificate with translation to the USCIS, wouldn't that work in the US too for a name change?

I'm not sure what your state will require, but I merely had my marriage license and translation. That worked for me. I did forgot to change the passport however, so when I went to fly back to Morocco I had issues with the discrepancy from my passport to my drivers license.

yep, most states just need the marriage certificate, in english of course.

here, you have to present the certificate along with a form, to a judge and the judge signs off on it and then you can go get it changed.

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

In Michigan I used my original and translated marriage license to change my last name. No less than 3 ppl had to look at it before they decided it was legit but whatever. I took my driver's license with the changed last name over to the Social Security office to have my SS card changed.

First of all, congrats on your marriage, I also got married in Egypt. I changed my name already to my husband's name. It was a simple process for me. I took our Egyptian marriage certificate and the translated copy in English to the social security office to get it changed my name on my social security card. Once I got the name card, I went to the DMV and gpt it changed there.

I hope this help.
