I am finally in US with my fiance, woooooohooooo. We took a 10 day vacation in Yellowstone, Titan, Grand Canyon and Zion, on the way down from Canada, so we just arrived home although we crossed the border on July 01. POE experience was o.k., they were very pleasant and nice, but I was also in a bit of a shock when they told me that I have to pay over $500 for my 1,5 year old Mazda 3 because it was made in Japan. First time I heard of that. So for any of you that have a vehicle not made in North America, think twice as they knew those rules really well. Other than that, it was o.k.

When we arrived to CA, there was also a message from UPS that my 12 boxes were returned to Çanada as the copy of my K1 visa was not sufficient for customs clearance. The rules have apparently just changed and they also need copy of I-94 to send personal bellongings accross. We have all that straghtened out, live and learn I guess. My boxes should be here on July 17

We are happy to finally be together.

Glad everything is working out for you.

Sorry to hear about your car. My daughter's 15 year old Honda Civic can't be imported because it doesn't meet the Safety Standards (it does meet the EPA standards, though). It doesn't have driver's side airbag, so it can't be imported.

Good luck with your new life in the U.S.

do not have a car to import and everything is more than a year old.

so do not envisage much paperwork.

seems forms are easy , not sure if there is a official form for your belongings??

also will not bring everything on first journey.will be back up to canada at new year.

good luck on your lifes adventures

Congratulations on your arrival to your new home and on getting all of the paperwork taken care of. Just a clarification, it isn't a 'change' - you have always required a copy of the I-94 and border stamp to import items when moving to the US from Canada as a K-1. I moved here over 2 years ago and was required to fax a copy of my I-94 back to the moving company before they were able to bring my goods across. It is required to prove that you have actually crossed the border and are now in the US. They already had a copy of the K-1.

Too bad about the car - yes, I wasn't able to bring mine across because it too didn't meet the air bag safety requirements even though it met the EPA standards, so I sold it instead and bought another one in the US.

Enjoy your new life!

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
