My interview (yesterday) 09/03/09

Well... if you actually have a relationship, the interview is going to go smooth and they are going to ask you questions that you know the answer so keep calm.

We got there about 8:45 am. The interview was supposed to be at 9:00 am in Hartford, CT. Firstly we passed though the security and then we went to the interview waiting room. When we got there we gave the Appointment notice for the receptionist and he told us to sit down and wait.

We waited for about 15 minutes than an officer called us and directed us to her office. Once in there we swore that every statement that we were going to make was true and she asked for my Passport, I-94, drivers license and social security card. For my wife she asked for her proof of citizenship (we gave them a passport) she asked her ssn number and also asked for her drivers license. (Both of us never changed our drivers license since we moved into CT... mine still had Maryland address and hers Alaska with her old last name).

Her first question was: When did you arrive in the U.S.? than she asked if I left the U.S. and reentered it after the date I told her and I said no. So she checked my passport for entrance stamps and found nothing. Than she asked me if I was born in Brazil and I said Yes.

Then she asked my wife how did we meet each other. We answered and she asked for bonafides of marriage we gave than the Lease of our apartment, bank statement, car insurance policy, and the original marriage certificate. Than she asked if that was everything we had... and we said no.. we brought a lot of photo albums and correspondence we sent each other through the time (about one year) we were dating. She told us that she would look at one photo album only and asked to nikki to pick one and she did.

After that she double checked all the paperwork we submitted and she said that the medical one could be incomplete because the doctor didn't fill up all the vaccinations I took. She went to her supervisor and she said it was ok. After that she made the questions on the third page of the I-485. Than she stamped the last page and asked me to sign it. She explained that since I was under 26 years of age, I should go to the website www.sss.gov and sign up for the selective service if I didn't want have any problem for citizenship application. Than she explained that I was going to have a conditional greencard and when it was about three months to expire I should mail a form to remove condition. After that she told us that she only needed to check if my FBI background check was done. When she came back she said welcome to the U.S. and said that my process was accepted and I would be receiving my greencard within 60 days. She said that we were all set and also wished us good luck in our marriage.
